About the Role

The State Bushfire Mitigation Team is responsible for managing vegetation on Unallocated Crown Land and Unmanaged Reserves within the Perth metropolitan area and all gazetted WA townsites. This position plays a key role in reducing the risk and impact of bushfires on communities.
Responsibilities
- Use various tools, machines and equipment to remove or modify vegetation, such as firebreak construction and maintenance work, erecting signage and maintaining water points.
- Participate in a range of vegetation management and fuel reduction activities, including machine mulching, slashing, line trimming and chainsaw/pole saw operations.
- Apply chemical spraying techniques to manage vegetation growth.
- Ensure work is carried out safely, efficiently, and in alignment with environmental considerations.
- Maintain relevant qualifications and undertake training to meet organisational requirements.
Essential Requirements
- Work independently and collaboratively, often in remote regional areas.
- Demonstrate initiative and sound judgment.
- Show commitment to safety in all aspects of work.
- Be physically fit and capable of passing a medical assessment.
Prerequisites
- Possess a current unrestricted Australian C-Class (manual) licence and the ability to attain or hold a Heavy Rigid licence driver’s licence valid for the duration of employment.
- Be physically fit and able to pass a pre-employment medical assessment.
Employment Conditions
DFES employees may be required to work or travel outside normal business hours to assist with emergencies. Appropriate allowances may apply.

Eligibility
You must be an Australian citizen or hold permanent residency.
National Police Certificate
A current National Police Certificate (less than 3 months old) must be provided prior to commencement.
Choice of Superannuation
- Permanent appointments: GESB Superannuation account or Fire and Emergency Services Superannuation Fund.
- Fixed‑term appointments: choice of super available; if converted to permanent, must choose one of the two options.
