About the Role
We are looking for a Tanzania-qualified Legal Officer to join our regional legal team. This role is based in Dar es Salaam and will provide day-to-day legal support not only for our Tanzania operations but also for other countries within our geographic cluster. You will play a key role in contract management, compliance governance, subsidiary administration, and dispute resolution, acting as a trusted in-house legal partner to business teams.
This is an excellent opportunity for a junior legal professional with 1–2 years of post-qualification experience who is ready to grow in a dynamic, multi-jurisdictional in-house environment.
Key Responsibilities
1.Contract Review & Management
①Draft, review, and negotiate a wide range of commercial contracts, including procurement, service, distribution, and partnership agreements.
②Identify legal and business risks and provide practical, solution-oriented recommendations.
③Maintain contract templates and standard terms in line with company policies.
2.Compliance & Policy Development
①Develop, update, and review internal policies, procedures, and codes of conduct to ensure compliance with applicable laws and group standards.
②Monitor regulatory changes in Tanzania and other covered jurisdictions, and proactively advise internal stakeholders.
③Support anti-bribery, anti-corruption, and data privacy compliance initiatives.
3.Subsidiary Governance
①Manage corporate governance matters for local and regional subsidiaries, including board meetings, resolutions, and statutory filings.
②Coordinate with external counsel and company secretarial service providers where necessary.
③Ensure proper maintenance of corporate records and legal entities across the region.
4.Dispute Resolution & Legal Advisory
①Provide sound legal opinions on pre-litigation disputes, claims, and regulatory inquiries.
②Assist in managing external lawyers and arbitration/litigation proceedings.
③Develop internal guidelines on dispute prevention and risk mitigation.
5.Regional Coverage Support
Work closely with country managers and functional heads across the region to address legal needs beyond Tanzania, ensuring consistency and compliance in cross-border matters.
6.Qualifications & Requirements
①Education: Bachelor of Laws (LL.B.) from a recognized university, plus a Post-Graduate Diploma in Legal Practice (PGDLP) from Tanzania.
②Experience: 1–2 years of post-qualification experience, preferably with exposure to corporate/commercial practice, either in a law firm or in-house legal department.
③Legal Knowledge: Solid understanding of contract law, company law, and labour/employment law in Tanzania; familiarity with regional legal frameworks is an advantage.
④Dispute Resolution: Some hands-on experience in handling or supporting disputes, arbitrations, or litigation matters.
⑤Language: Native-level English (written and spoken); proficiency in Swahili is a plus.
⑥Skills: Strong analytical, drafting, and communication skills; ability to translate complex legal issues into clear business advice; self-starter with good organizational and stakeholder management abilities.
