Duties
- Assist veterinarians during examinations, surgeries, and diagnostic procedures, ensuring all equipment and instruments are prepared and sterile.
- Perform animal restraint and handling with confidence across various species, including dogs, cats, and equines, ensuring safety for both animals and staff.
- Conduct laboratory work such as blood draws (phlebotomy), sample processing, and diagnostic testing using veterinary software systems, IVCaths.
- Administer medications, vaccines, and treatments accurately following veterinary instructions while monitoring anesthesia during surgical procedures.
- Operate medical equipment including radiology (X-ray), ultrasound machines, dental units, and anesthesia monitors to support diagnostic and surgical needs without assistance.
- Maintain aseptic techniques during procedures like IV insertions, catheterizations, and wound care to prevent infections.
- Support pet care activities such as grooming, pet grooming advice, and animal husbandry to promote overall well-being.
- Assist with critical & intensive care cases by monitoring vital signs, managing emergency protocols, and providing compassionate animal care in high-pressure situations.
- Communicate effectively with pet owners regarding treatment plans, post-operative care instructions, and general pet health advice to foster trust and clarity.
Experience
- Previous experience working as a veterinary technician or in animal healthcare settings is highly preferred; however, motivated newcomers with relevant training are encouraged to apply.
- Demonstrated proficiency in veterinary terminology, animal physiology, anatomy knowledge, and medical equipment operation is essential.
- Experience with laboratory diagnostics such as radiology diagnostics or veterinary laboratory work enhances your ability to contribute effectively.
- Skilled in dog handling techniques including training support or pet grooming is a plus for roles involving client interaction or animal comfort.
- Knowledge of anesthesiology practices—including general anesthesia management—and emergency medicine procedures is highly valued.
- Familiarity with veterinary software systems for record keeping and diagnostic data entry ensures smooth workflow integration.
- Ability to perform venipuncture (IV insertion), vascular access procedures, animal restraint techniques, and radiology diagnostics confidently across different species.
Pay: $18.00 – $24.00 per hour
