Veterinary Talent Acquisition Specialist

Position Summary
The Veterinary Talent Acquisition Specialist is responsible for developing and executing comprehensive recruitment strategies to attract, engage, assess, and hire exceptional veterinary professionals across the organization. This role supports the full spectrum of veterinary and practice leadership hiring, including Doctors of Veterinary Medicine (DVMs), Foreign Veterinary Graduates (international veterinary graduates), Practice Managers, Registered/Licensed Veterinary Technicians, and Veterinary Assistants.
The ideal candidate combines strong recruiting expertise with an understanding of veterinary medicine, clinical practice environments, and the unique needs of veterinary professionals. This position serves as a strategic partner to practice leaders and hiring managers while creating a positive, efficient, and candidate-centered experience from initial outreach through onboarding.
Key ResponsibilitiesFull-Cycle Veterinary Recruitment
- Manage the full recruitment lifecycle from workforce planning and job intake through sourcing, interviewing, offer negotiation, and acceptance.
- Recruit for a diverse portfolio of veterinary positions, including:
- DVMs and Associate Veterinarians
- Medical Directors and Lead Veterinarians
- Foreign Veterinary Graduates / International Veterinary Graduates
- Practice Managers and Hospital Managers
- Licensed, Registered, and Certified Veterinary Technicians
- Veterinary Assistants and Veterinary Support Staff
- Other clinical and hospital leadership positions as needed.
- Partner with practice managers, medical directors, regional leaders, and HR teams to understand staffing needs and develop targeted recruiting strategies.
- Build and maintain talent pipelines for high-priority and difficult-to-fill veterinary positions.
- Develop recruitment plans based on practice location, staffing needs, specialty, caseload, schedule, compensation, and market conditions.
Sourcing & Talent Pipeline Development
- Proactively source candidates through job boards, professional networks, social media, veterinary associations, universities, veterinary schools, technician programs, referrals, career fairs, conferences, and direct outreach.
- Build long-term relationships with passive veterinary candidates and maintain warm talent pipelines.
- Develop specialized sourcing strategies for DVMs, foreign veterinary graduates, veterinary technicians, assistants, and practice management professionals.
- Establish relationships with veterinary schools, colleges, technician programs, professional organizations, and international veterinary communities.
- Develop employee referral and talent ambassador strategies to increase qualified candidate flow.
- Track market trends, candidate availability, compensation expectations, and competitive hiring activity.
DVM & Foreign Veterinary Graduate Recruitment
- Develop specialized recruiting strategies for experienced veterinarians, new graduates, relief veterinarians, and international veterinary graduates.
- Build relationships with veterinary schools and international veterinary organizations.
- Provide candidates with accurate information regarding employment opportunities, practice environments, mentorship, relocation, and career development.
- Coordinate with internal stakeholders (legal team and leadership teams) regarding the recruitment and onboarding of foreign veterinary graduates, including documentation and work authorization processes where applicable.
- Work closely with appropriate internal teams and external resources to help international candidates understand applicable U.S. licensing and credentialing requirements.
- Maintain a professional and compliant recruitment process without providing legal or immigration advice outside the organization’s authorized resources.
Candidate Experience
- Serve as a primary point of contact for candidates throughout the recruitment process.
- Conduct initial phone/video screens and evaluate candidates against established position requirements.
- Communicate clearly and consistently regarding interview processes, timelines, compensation, benefits, practice culture, and next steps.
- Coordinate interviews between candidates and hiring teams.
- Provide timely follow-up and feedback to candidates.
- Develop a compelling employment value proposition that communicates the organization’s culture, mission, career opportunities, mentorship, and professional growth.
- Ensure every candidate receives a professional, respectful, and engaging experience regardless of hiring outcome.
Hiring Manager Partnership
- Conduct effective intake meetings with hiring managers to establish position requirements and candidate profiles.
- Advise hiring leaders on sourcing strategies, candidate availability, compensation considerations, and recruiting challenges.
- Establish recruiting priorities and timelines.
- Present qualified candidates and provide objective candidate assessments.
- Coach hiring managers on interview practices, candidate engagement, selection, and closing strategies.
- Monitor open requisitions and proactively communicate recruiting progress, challenges, and recommended solutions.
Employer Branding & Recruitment Marketing
- Represent the organization at veterinary conferences, career fairs, university events, networking events, and other recruiting activities.
- Partner with marketing and HR teams to strengthen the organization’s employer brand within the veterinary community.
- Create and optimize recruitment campaigns for hard-to-fill positions.
- Develop engaging job advertisements and candidate communications tailored to specific veterinary audiences.
- Promote organizational culture, professional development, mentorship, benefits, and career opportunities.
Recruiting Operations & Compliance
- Maintain accurate candidate and requisition information within the Applicant Tracking System (ATS).
- Track recruiting metrics including time-to-fill, source of hire, candidate conversion rates, offer acceptance, pipeline activity, and open requisitions.
- Ensure recruitment practices comply with applicable employment laws, organizational policies, and equal employment opportunity requirements.
- Maintain confidentiality of candidate and employee information.
- Collaborate with HR, credentialing, compliance, and onboarding teams to ensure a smooth transition from accepted offer to start date.
QualificationsRequired
- Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business, Communications, Veterinary Administration, or a related field, or equivalent relevant recruiting experience.
- 4+ years of recruiting or talent acquisition experience, preferably in healthcare, veterinary medicine, animal health, or another clinical environment.
- Demonstrated experience with full-cycle recruiting.
- Strong sourcing, interviewing, candidate engagement, and relationship-building skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to manage multiple requisitions and competing priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Experience using an ATS, CRM, LinkedIn, job boards, and other recruiting technology.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to build trusted relationships with candidates, veterinarians, technicians, assistants, and practice leadership.
Preferred
- Experience recruiting DVMs, veterinary technicians, veterinary assistants, or veterinary practice leaders.
- Knowledge of the veterinary profession and clinical practice environment.
- Experience recruiting Foreign Veterinary Graduates / International Veterinary Graduates.
- Experience working with veterinary schools, technician programs, professional associations, or veterinary conferences.
- Experience recruiting for multi-location veterinary practices or healthcare organizations.
- Familiarity with veterinary licensing, credentialing, and professional qualification processes.
- Experience with high-volume or geographically distributed recruiting.

Within the first 90-120 days, the Veterinary Talent Acquisition Specialist will have established strong partnerships with hiring leaders, developed reliable talent pipelines across all major veterinary job categories, improved candidate communication and engagement, and created repeatable sourcing strategies for difficult-to-fill veterinary positions.
Ultimately, this position plays a critical role in ensuring that veterinary practices have the right people, in the right roles, at the right time to deliver exceptional patient care and client service.
