Veterinary Assistant Career Pathway Jobs in Chesapeake, VA at Centerville Animal Hospital

Designed for Future and Newly Licensed Veterinary Technicians

At Centerville Animal Hospital, we’ve created a structured clinical career pathway that allows you to develop your skills, gain confidence, and grow into increasing levels of responsibility with mentorship every step of the way.

Whether you’re just beginning veterinary technology school, preparing for graduation, or already have significant veterinary assistant experience, we have a role designed to help you continue developing your career.

Technician’s Assistant

Ideal for:

  • Early-career veterinary assistants
  • First-year LVT students

As a Technician’s Assistant, you’ll work alongside our Licensed Veterinary Technicians to build a strong foundation in patient care and technical skills.

You’ll learn through hands-on experience while developing confidence in:

  • Patient handling and nursing care
  • Laboratory procedures and diagnostics
  • Treatment area workflow
  • Medical terminology
  • Technical skills appropriate to your experience and training
  • Team communication and hospital workflow

This role is designed to prepare you for increasing clinical responsibility as your education and experience progress.

Patient Care Coordinator

Ideal for:

  • Experienced veterinary assistants
  • Senior LVT students
  • New graduate LVTs

As a Patient Care Coordinator, you’ll work side-by-side with a veterinarian throughout the day, becoming their primary clinical partner during appointments.

You’ll continue advancing your technical abilities while mastering:

  • Clinical reasoning and case management
  • Client education and communication
  • Treatment planning and discharge coordination
  • Hands-on patient care, diagnostics, treatments, and nursing skills
  • Workflow management and appointment efficiency

Rather than simply assisting during appointments, you’ll help coordinate every aspect of the patient and client experience while developing the knowledge and confidence expected of an exceptional veterinary technician.

Built for Veterinary Technology Students

We’re proud to support students from both traditional campus-based and accredited distance-learning veterinary technology programs.

We understand that balancing coursework, clinical rotations, and employment can be challenging. That’s why we offer both full-time and part-time opportunities and work with students to create schedules that support their educational success while providing meaningful hands-on experience.

Our goal isn’t simply to employ students—it’s to help develop outstanding veterinary technicians.
