Overview
Veterinarian Jobs in Los Angeles, CA at SPAY4LA
Spay4LA is expanding our veterinary team and seeking a veterinarian interested in making a measurable difference for animals and the communities that care for them.
Our nonprofit mobile clinic bring affordable spay/neuter services directly to communities throughout Los Angeles County where access to veterinary care can be limited. By preventing unwanted litters, our veterinary team plays an important role in reducing the number of animals entering local shelters and helping pets remain with their families.
This is an excellent opportunity for a veterinarian who enjoys surgery and wants a predictable daytime schedule without the demands of traditional general practice.
The Position
As a Spay4LA veterinarian, your primary focus will be performing canine and feline sterilization procedures aboard our mobile surgical clinic.
A typical surgical day includes approximately 30–35 patients, supported by an experienced team of Registered Veterinary Technicians, veterinary assistants, and clinic staff.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Performing canine and feline ovariohysterectomies and castrations
- Evaluating patients for surgical and anesthetic suitability
- Providing medical direction to RVTs and veterinary support staff
- Responding appropriately to surgical or anesthetic concerns
- Working collaboratively with the clinic team to maintain a safe and efficient surgical day
- Following established Spay4LA medical, anesthesia, and patient-safety protocols
What We’re Looking For
Applicants must have:
- A DVM or equivalent veterinary degree
- A current California veterinary license in good standing
- Confidence performing routine canine and feline surgery
- Strong knowledge of anesthesia, pain management, and surgical patient safety
- The ability to communicate effectively with veterinary technicians and support staff
- A collaborative and professional approach to patient care
Previous experience in high-volume spay/neuter, shelter medicine, community medicine, or mobile veterinary practice is a plus, but is not required.
A Veterinary Schedule With Your Evenings and Weekends Back
One of the biggest advantages of this position is the schedule.
Our veterinarians work daytime surgical shifts, typically 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM, with:
- No evening shifts
- No weekend shifts
- No overnight shifts
- No emergency shifts
- No on-call rotation
Full-time and part-time opportunities are available Monday through Friday.
Why Spay4LA?
You’ll be joining a nonprofit organization built around accessible veterinary care and high-quality spay/neuter services.
Our veterinarians benefit from:
- Highly competitive daily compensation
- Experienced RVT and veterinary support staff
- Established surgical and anesthesia protocols
- Mobile surgical units equipped for high-volume spay/neuter
- A team-based environment designed to keep the surgical day organized and efficient
- The ability to spend the majority of your clinical time doing surgery
- Work that has a direct impact on pet overpopulation and shelter intake
Instead of juggling wellness appointments, lengthy client consultations, emergency cases, and an unpredictable caseload, you can concentrate on what you’re here to do: provide excellent surgical care.
Your Work Has an Impact Beyond the Operating Table
A single spay or neuter can prevent generations of unwanted animals.
Multiply that by 30 or more patients in a day, and the impact of your work becomes significant.
At Spay4LA, our veterinarians aren’t simply completing surgeries. They’re helping increase access to veterinary care, prevent animals from entering already crowded shelters, and support families who want to do the right thing for their pets but may have limited affordable options.
If you’re an experienced veterinarian looking for meaningful surgical work, an excellent support team, and a schedule that leaves room for life outside of veterinary medicine, we would love to hear from you.
Come operate with purpose. Help us create healthier pets, stronger communities, and fewer animals entering shelters.
