Position: Vegetation Program Manager | Indianapolis, IN

About the Role

This Program Manager 1 reports to the Operations Manager at ACRT Inc. The position is responsible for identifying, inspecting, and evaluating trees and brush along utility lines and providing clients with detailed inspection results and recommendations. The role also plans, directs, and coordinates the activities of assigned tree clearance crews.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare “Scope of Work” documentation for bids from vegetation contractors.
  • Review vegetation contractor bids for capital projects.
  • Communicate critical information between departments to ensure resource availability.
  • Manage several projects concurrently under customer advisement.
  • Ensure projects are completed to specified scope of work.
  • Maintain state, local, and organizational compliance.
  • Obtain permits from public agencies and document work.
  • Comply with all regulatory requirements and client vegetation management standards.
  • Perform all necessary duties for emergency response in accordance with safety requirements, law, and regulations.
  • Adhere to all attendance and work hour requirements.
  • Conduct safety-conscious work, wearing required personal protective equipment.
  • Conduct safety and productivity audits, quality assurance, and quality control assessments.
  • Build and maintain new and existing relationships with clients, tree crews, and customer personnel.
  • Serve as a liaison between clients, tree crews, and client customers.
  • Present at public presentations and meetings as needed.
  • Identify and inspect local trees, demonstrating understanding of growth rates.
  • Map out circuits using client continuity lists, patrol and investigate distribution and transmission circuits.
  • Enter tree trimming/tree and brush removal prescriptions into hand‑held computers or other systems.
  • Notify property owners of tree trimming or brush removal work to be performed.
  • Manage the issuance of work and track work progress.
  • Perform outage investigations when necessary.
  • Discuss and negotiate line‑clearance crew access issues.
  • Lead storm restoration efforts and special initiatives.
  • Serve as vegetation observer in helicopter patrols as requested.
  • Audit tree trimming and tree removal work completed by contractors to ensure compliance.
  • Determine next tree trimming requirements.
  • Complete post‑audit forms and forward them to program management.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Forestry or a related field (or 10 years of utility vegetation management experience in lieu of a degree).
  • ISA Arborist Certification.
  • Valid driver’s license and clean driving record.

Nice to Haves

  • 9 years (or 12 years in lieu of a degree) of utility vegetation management experience.
  • ISA Utility Specialist Credential and state license.
  • Pesticide license.

Skills

  • Proficiency with company or job‑specific software systems.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office or similar suite.
  • Ability to identify local trees and understand growth rates.
  • Ability to work in rugged terrain and inclement weather.
  • Ability to drive and operate a 4×4 vehicle.
  • Self‑starter with excellent interpersonal and multitasking skills.
  • Strong communication skills; comfortable interacting with senior management, customers, and clients.
  • Critical thinking and good judgment for business decisions.
  • Strong understanding of FAC‑003.
  • Proven ability and knowledge of project management, GIS/Tech expertise.
