Invarium Insurance is a lean-model specialist digital non-life insurer operating in Zimbabwe. We are recruiting an Underwriting Manager to establish and lead our underwriting function.
About the Role
The Underwriting Manager will provide technical leadership for the underwriting portfolio, ensuring disciplined risk selection, sound pricing, and full regulatory compliance across all product lines. The role involves establishing underwriting standards and rating tools, leading new product development and registration, and managing the company's reinsurance programme. Extended availability and focus are expected during the fourth-quarter annual reinsurance treaty renewal season.
Key Responsibilities
● Evaluate, price, and accept or decline risks across all approved product lines
● Develop and maintain rating tools and pricing models
● Monitor portfolio performance and loss ratios, and take corrective underwriting action
● Lead the development and regulatory registration of new insurance products
● Manage facultative and treaty reinsurance arrangements
● Provide underwriting insight and reporting to management and the Board
Requirements
● Bachelor's degree in Insurance, Risk Management, Actuarial Science, Law, or a related field
● Professional qualification (IIZ, ACII, AIISA, or equivalent)
● Five to seven years of progressive short-term insurance experience, including two to three years at a senior underwriting or technical level
● Practical knowledge of the Insurance Act and IPEC product registration requirements
● Experience working within a Core Insurance System environment
