Role Description The Therapist role is a full-time, on-site position based in Owerri. The therapist will provide individual and group counseling to community members, focusing on issues such as stress, anxiety, depression, and trauma. Daily responsibilities include conducting assessments, developing treatment and care plans, documenting sessions, and maintaining accurate case records in line with professional and organizational standards. The therapist will collaborate with peer-support facilitators, program coordinators, and partner organizations to ensure integrated, person-centered care. Additional duties include contributing to workshops, psychoeducation sessions, and outreach activities, as well as supporting research and evaluation efforts to improve mental health services.
Qualifications
- Clinical skills in assessment, diagnosis, and evidence-based therapeutic interventions (e.g., CBT, person-centered therapy, trauma-informed approaches).
- Ability to deliver individual and group counseling, psychoeducation, and crisis intervention in community and organizational settings.
- Strong communication, active listening, and interpersonal skills, with the capacity to build trust and maintain professional boundaries.
- Competence in maintaining accurate clinical documentation, case notes, and confidential records in accordance with ethical standards.
- Experience working in mental health, social work, counseling, or related fields, ideally within community or non-profit environments.
- Relevant academic qualification such as a degree in Psychology, Counseling, Social Work, or a related discipline; professional licensure or registration is an advantage.
- Knowledge of culturally responsive and inclusive practices, with commitment to non-discriminatory, gender-neutral, and stigma-reducing care.
- Ability to collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary teams and external partners, including schools, employers, and community organizations.
- Comfort working on-site in Owerri, with flexibility to support outreach activities, workshops, and peer-support programs as needed.
