Position: Technician I, Animal Welfare Focus
Become an integral part of the University of Ottawa as a Technician I focusing on Animal Care. This full-time position emphasizes animal observation, clean feeding, and maintaining a sanitized environment.
As a Technician I under the Animal Care and Veterinary Service department, you’ll report to the Associate Supervisor. Responsibilities include performing health checks, ensuring proper animal housing, and maintaining standards for cleanliness and safety. You will play a crucial role in upholding the welfare and compliance of laboratory animals.
Key Responsibilities:
• Monitor and record health parameters for animals
• Change bedding and provide fresh feed daily
• Carry out husbandry care in accordance with protocols
• Sanitize and clean equipment related to animal care
• Assist with quality assurance for animal housing materials
Requirements:
• Completion of secondary school diploma and relevant training
• Understanding of laboratory animal husbandry
• Detail-oriented approach to task instructions
• Ability to cooperate within a team environment
• Flexibility to work after hours and on holidays when required
