Compensation: $120,000 to 150,000 annually. Compensation will be determined based on experience, qualifications, and relevant pharmacy/compounding experience.
Doc Lane’s is an independent, veteran-owned veterinary pharmacy located in Lexington, Kentucky. We work with veterinarians and animal owners to provide customized pharmaceutical solutions for horses, dogs, cats, exotic animals and wildlife.
Our pharmacists help solve practical medication challenges by evaluating prescriptions, verifying compounded preparations and collaborating with veterinarians and pharmacy colleagues. The work includes a wide variety of dosage forms and offers an opportunity to build expertise in an interesting and growing area of pharmacy practice.
Previous veterinary experience is preferred. We are interested in strong pharmacists who bring sound judgment, careful attention to detail and a genuine desire to learn.

The role
Reporting to the Pharmacy Manager, the Staff Pharmacist supports the safe, accurate and timely preparation, verification and dispensing of veterinary medications.
Depending on experience and assigned responsibilities, the pharmacist may support sterile and nonsterile compounding, supervise pharmacy technicians, communicate with veterinarians and clients, and contribute to quality and workflow improvements.
What you’ll do
- Review veterinary prescriptions for completeness, accuracy, appropriate calculations and clinical or regulatory concerns.
- Verify compounded and commercially available medications before dispensing.
- Provide pharmacist oversight to pharmacy technicians and support personnel.
- Perform or supervise sterile and nonsterile compounding activities in accordance with training, policies and assigned responsibilities.
- Communicate with veterinarians to clarify prescriptions and resolve medication or formulation questions.
- Provide accurate, professional service to veterinary practices and animal owners.
- Maintain complete and accurate dispensing, compounding, patient, prescriber and inventory records.
- Follow applicable federal and state pharmacy laws, DEA requirements, accreditation standards, USP requirements and company procedures.
- Support appropriate handling, storage, reconciliation and documentation of controlled substances.
- Identify and escalate possible errors, quality concerns, adverse events or unusual prescriptions.
- Contribute ideas that improve safety, quality, turnaround time and client service.
- Assist with audits, inspections, inventory reviews, complaints and corrective actions as needed.
- Maintain a clean, organized and compliant working environment.
What you’ll bring
Required
- Doctor of Pharmacy degree from an accredited U.S. pharmacy program
- Active, unrestricted Kentucky pharmacist license, or the ability to obtain one before beginning employment
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to patient safety
- Sound clinical judgment and willingness to clarify questionable prescriptions
- Ability to perform pharmaceutical calculations accurately
- Strong organization and time-management skills
- Clear, professional communication with veterinarians, clients and colleagues
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively
- Willingness to learn veterinary pharmacotherapy, specialized dosage forms and compounding procedures
Preferred
- Familiarity with USP Chapters <795>, <797> and <800>
- Veterinary or animal-health pharmacy experience
- Infusion, hospital, specialty, independent or community-pharmacy experience
- Experience supervising pharmacy technicians
You do not need to arrive as a veterinary-pharmacy expert. We provide training for accomplished pharmacists who bring excellent judgment, accuracy and a commitment to learning. Experience in retail, community, hospital, infusion, specialty or human compounding pharmacy may transfer successfully to this position.
Schedule and work environment
- Regular schedule: Monday through Friday
- No regularly scheduled weekend shifts
- Full-time, onsite position at 101 Venture Court, Suite 125, Lexington, Kentucky
This position operates in a professional pharmacy environment that includes sterile and nonsterile compounding laboratories. It involves a combination of standing, walking, sitting, computer work and use of pharmaceutical equipment.
The employee must occasionally be able to move materials weighing up to 50pounds. Reasonable accommodations will be considered in accordance with applicable law.
