Position: Seasonal Forest And Park Supervisor I (Salisbury Beach State Reservation)
Forest and Park Supervisor I – Salisbury Beach State Reservation
Responsibilities
- Supervise and perform seasonal operation, administration and maintenance of assigned facility including grounds maintenance, building and equipment maintenance, and recreational programming.
- Supervise assigned staff performing visitor recreation and/or education services, facility maintenance and resource protection programs; including work assignment and scheduling, work performance review and evaluation, and staff development and training.
- Maintain, communicate and enforce professional standards for quality of visitor services, staff appearance, facility maintenance, public safety and resource protection.
- Develop and maintain professional/service relationships with Friends Group, users and other organizations having particular interest in the assigned area.
- Communicate park activities, incidents, and programs to other Departmental staff; prepare various written reports, electronic communication via computer, telephone and radio transmission.
- Prepare reports and maintain records regarding daily, weekly, monthly, and seasonal operation of the assigned area; provide information and make appropriate recommendations.
- Coordinate activities and work of volunteers, court‑referred individuals, etc.
- Perform related duties such as determining supply needs; operating and performing routine maintenance on various types of equipment and vehicles; providing information to the general public; interviewing candidates for employment; providing on‑the‑job training; using small hand tools; and other duties as required.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Preferred Qualifications
- Knowledge of the laws, rules, regulations, policies, procedures, specifications, standards, and guidelines governing assigned unit activities.
- Knowledge of the geographic composition of the assigned work area.
- Knowledge of the types and uses of agency forms.
- Knowledge of the principles, practices, and techniques of supervision.
Minimum Entrance Requirements
- At least two years of full‑time, or equivalent part‑time, technical or professional experience in the field of forestry, parks, or recreational management; or an equivalent combination of required experience and substitutions (Associate’s degree or higher with major in forestry, natural resources management, or parks and recreation management).
- Special requirement: possession of a current and valid Massachusetts Motor Vehicle Operator’s License (based on assignment).

Salary and benefits:
Salary range is determined by experience, seniority, agency’s budget, and the nature of the role. Union positions follow the applicable salary schedule.
