Registered Veterinary Technician POOL
Job Summary
This is a continuous recruitment for an application pool to fill – full time hourly Registered Veterinary Technicians on an as‑needed basis. Applications are accepted year‑round and will remain in the pool. The role is to support clinical teaching and service in the curriculum and public practice of the College of Veterinary Medicine.
Key Responsibilities
- Participate in teaching veterinary clinical and surgical skills to veterinary students in wellness rotations, clinical skills laboratories, 3rd year courses, and 4th year courses administered by the College of Veterinary Medicine.
- Participate in the development and implementation of clinical services within the Pet Health Clinic, VACS I and VACS II – veterinary ambulatory community service units, 1st and 2nd year clinical courses, 3rd year Small Animal Medicine, Shelter Animal, and Surgical courses and 4th year clinical courses. (Non‑technical duties could include driving a mobile veterinary vehicle(s).)
- Assist with client service and patient care in the involved courses, rotations, and public practice.
- Support faculty with technical and non‑technical skills, administrative needs, preparation and planning where needed in the involved courses, rotations, and public practice.
- Assist with cleaning, proper disinfecting for infection control, and organization of the CVM facilities where the rotations, courses, and public practice occur.
- Participate in the production and implementation of the clinical skills curriculum. Assist with preparation and oversight of pet volunteers and laboratories, setting up and cleaning up laboratories. Maintain inventory and equipment.
- Act as an expert resource for tasks typically performed by a Registered Veterinary Technician.
- Participate in veterinary and education research as needed by the College of Veterinary Medicine.
- Fulfill other technical and non‑technical duties as needed in the College of Veterinary Medicine.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Ability to read and write medical records and recommendations.
- Ability to calculate client’s bills, drug dosages, and dilutions.
- Ability to teach students in technical skills; supervise veterinary students; evaluate and document veterinary patient care.
- Ability to restrain, handle, and perform physical exams on a variety of animal species. Broad species experience desirable.
- Knowledge and enthusiasm for small animal preventative care recommendations (nutrition, dentistry, behavior, immunizations); veterinary medical terminology; veterinary procedures; surgical nursing; basic sanitation and upkeep of equipment.
- Ability to perform a variety of basic veterinary office procedures.
- Logical, independent problem‑solving and attention to detail.
- Effective interaction with administration, faculty, staff, students, clients, and visitors/vendors.
- Computer proficiency (Internet, Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
- Demonstrated leadership.
- Lead Primary RVT experience at one rotation site or equivalent.
- Ability to train new RVT staff at all levels.
Required Qualifications
- Education:
College degree or a combination of education, training or experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
- Completion of a degree from an RVT school.
- RVT License in the State of California.
- Experience:
- Entry‑level, no experience necessary or up to 5 years in general practice.
- Valid California Driver’s License required for travel to off‑site locations.
Preferred Qualifications
- Education:
Completion of internship/externship while in RVT school.

Physical Demands
Essential functions include frequent use of hands, talking, hearing, standing, walking, climbing stairs, reaching.
