Role Description The Quantity Surveyor will play a key role in planning, monitoring, and controlling project costs for school construction and renovation projects. This full-time, on-site position is based in Abeokuta and involves preparing Bills of Quantities, cost estimates, and tender documents, as well as evaluating contractor quotations and supporting procurement decisions. The Quantity Surveyor will track project budgets, monitor expenditures, and produce regular cost reports to ensure projects are delivered within agreed financial parameters. Daily tasks include conducting site measurements, valuing work done, assessing variations, and collaborating closely with project managers, engineers, architects, and community stakeholders. The role also involves risk assessment, supporting contract administration, and ensuring that cost management practices align with the organization’s mission and donor expectations.
Qualifications
- Candidates should possess strong cost planning and cost management skills, including the ability to develop accurate budgets and financial forecasts.
- Candidates should possess expertise in BOQ preparation and cost reporting, with experience producing clear, structured documentation for stakeholders and donors.
- Candidates should possess solid cost control skills, including monitoring expenditures, managing variations, and ensuring adherence to financial limits.
- Bachelor’s degree in Quantity Surveying, Construction Economics, Civil Engineering, or a related field.
- Professional certification or membership in a recognized quantity surveying or construction body is an advantage.
- Experience working on building or infrastructure projects, preferably in education or nonprofit settings in Africa.
- Strong analytical and numerical skills, attention to detail, and proficiency in relevant estimating and project management software.
- Effective communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work on-site with multidisciplinary teams and local communities in Abeokuta.
