About the Job

Mount Laurel Animal Hospital is looking to hire a skilled and compassionate Veterinary Technician to serve as a Patient Care Advocate. This unique role bridge the gap between exceptional medicine and an exceptional client experience. As the primary liaison between our medical teams and pet owners, you ensure clients remain informed, supported, and confident throughout their pet’s medical journey. If you are an experienced veterinary professional who thrives on building relationships, educating clients, and providing compassionate care while remaining flexible to meet the needs of a busy specialty and emergency hospital, we’d love to meet you.

Position Overview:

This role combines advanced client communication with hands-on veterinary support. While much of the day is dedicated to client education, follow-up care, and coordinating communication between departments, Patient Care Advocates are also expected to assist with patient handling, discharge appointments, and other clinical technician responsibilities whenever hospital operations require.

It is not your average trip into work, and that is just the beginning. Forgot your coffee or breakfast on the way in? No problem. Once your shift begins, you will step into a fast-paced, team-centered hospital environment where your role truly matters. A typical day may begin by following up with clients after procedures, reviewing medical records, and coordinating updates with doctors and technicians. Throughout the day, you’ll educate clients on medications, treatment plans, and home care instructions, answer questions with compassion, and help guide them through their pet’s medical journey. When hospital needs shift, you’ll step into a clinical support role by assisting with patient discharges, safely handling and restraining patients, and supporting the veterinary team to ensure seamless patient care. Responsibilities:

Client Advocacy & Communication

• Serve as the primary communication liaison between clients and the medical team

• Complete patient follow-up calls and document client interactions within the medical record.

• Communicate diagnostic results, treatment recommendations, and ongoing care instructions as directed by veterinarians.

• Provide compassionate support while helping clients understand complex medical information.

• Recognize concerns that require immediate escalation to the medical team.

• Educate clients regarding medications, common side effects, home monitoring, and discharge instructions.

• Assist with client concerns while maintaining exceptional service standards.

Patient Care Coordination

• Collaborate closely with veterinarians, technicians, assistants, and Client Service Representatives to ensure seamless patient care.

• Review medical records to identify outstanding client communications or follow-up needs.

• Help prioritize communication based on patient status and urgency.

• Maintain accurate documentation within the electronic medical record.

Clinical Support

• Performing patient discharge appointments.

• Safely restraining and handling patients for examinations, treatments, and procedures.

• Assisting technicians and veterinarians during periods of increased patient volume.

• Transporting patients throughout the hospital.

• Supporting patient care initiatives while maintaining patient safety and comfort.

• Performing additional technician-level responsibilities consistent with training and credentialing.

Physical & Work Environment Requirements

• Ability to lift and carry animals or equipment weighing up to 50 lbs

• Capable of standing, walking, kneeling, and bending for extended periods

• Safely restrain dogs, cats, and exotic species as appropriate.

• Perform technician duties involving patient handling when hospital operations require.

• Comfortable working in a fast-paced, high-volume environment with frequent interruptions

• Work evenings, weekends, holidays, and flexible schedules based on departmental needs.

Qualifications

Required:

• 2+ years of veterinary clinical experience.

• Strong understanding of veterinary terminology, diagnostics, medications, and treatment plans

• Ability to educate clients with compassion and professionalism.

• Strong verbal and written communication skills in English

•Comfortable working with electronic medical record systems.

• Ability to multitask in a fast-paced specialty and emergency hospital.

• Self-motivated and confident leading communication between departments

• Organized with great attention to detail and time management

• Calm, compassionate, and professional under pressure

Preferred

• Certified Veterinary Technician (CVT).

• Experience in emergency or specialty medicine.

• Experience with Cubex, EzyVet, or comparable veterinary software.
