Position: Natural Resource Technician 2 – Forest Inventory Assistant Crew Leader (10-N24023)
What You Will Be Doing
The majority of the duties consist of field data collection activities, such as collecting forest and natural resource inventory data on inventory plots. You will also serve as a crew leader for a team of 3-4 inventory technicians.

The mission of the Division of Forestry and Fire Protection is to develop, conserve, and enhance Alaska’s forests to provide a sustainable supply of forest resources for Alaskans. We are leaders in wildland fire management, forest management, forest practices, and cooperative forestry programs across the state.

This position is responsible for leading a small field crew and spends a majority of time in the field throughout the summer. Opportunities to visit various forest sites across the State, including both local and remote areas. The technicians will work 8-12 days shifts with 6-10 days off in between, which allows plenty of time off to enjoy the Alaskan summer outside of work.
The Working Environment You Can Expect
This position requires travel away from Fairbanks via the road system and camping for up to 12 days at a time. The crew might travel to a remote base camp and live and work with a dozen others. The crew will also travel daily from Fairbanks. The position requires working long hours in the field. Travel means vary throughout the season, including highway vehicles, ATV/UTVs, boats, helicopters, and/or small fixed-wing aircraft.
Long hikes are also expected.

Leadershipabilities, including developing a productiveteam environmentand coaching employees to meet productivity goals.
Extensive field experience in forest inventory.
Abilities to ensure the safety of field crews.
Experience inproblem-solvingand decision-making in difficult situations.
Familiarity with forest health issues.
Minimum Requirements
Six months of experience at the entry level performing technical functions of naturalresource managementequivalent to a Natural Resource Technician 1, Forest Technician 3 or Environmental Technician 1 with the State of Alaska.
OR
Six months of clerical work experience equivalent to an Administrative Clerk 3 or Recorder 1 with the State of Alaska.
OR
16 semester hours or 24 quarter hours of college course work from an accredited institution.
OR
Any combination of the above where 3 semester hours or 4 quarter hours is equivalent to one month of experience.
