Responsibilities
Job Summary:
The Milk and Formula Room Technician is responsible for preparing, storing, and ensuring the safe handling of breast milk and infant formula for babies in a healthcare setting. This role includes maintaining a clean and sterile environment, following strict guidelines and protocols for milk/formula preparation, labeling, and delivery, and providing support to healthcare staff in the nutrition of infants.
Key Responsibilities:
Milk and Formula Preparation:
Prepare infant formula and assist with handling expressed breast milk.
Ensure all formula is mixed according to manufacturer guidelines or medical orders.
Maintain records of preparation, including batch numbers and expiration dates.
Storage and Handling:
Store prepared formula and breast milk according to hospital/clinic protocols (temperature control, expiration tracking, etc.).
Ensure that all breast milk and formula is labeled properly with accurate information (e.g., infant’s name, date and time of preparation, etc.).
Monitor the condition and quality of stored breast milk and formula, discarding any outdated or improperly stored items.
Sterilization and Cleanliness:
Regularly clean and sterilize bottles, nipples, and equipment used for formula preparation and milk handling.
Maintain a sterile and hygienic environment in the milk and formula room, adhering to all infection control protocols.
Collaboration and Communication:
Collaborate with healthcare providers (doctors, nurses, dietitians) to ensure the specific nutritional needs of infants are met.
Communicate any issues related to milk/formula preparation, storage, or handling to the appropriate staff.
Record Keeping and Reporting:
Maintain accurate and detailed records of milk/formula preparation, storage, and dispensing.
Follow protocols for inventory control, ensuring supplies are adequately stocked and ordering new materials as needed.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:
High School Diploma/GED
Basic computer skill of Microsoft word and Excel.
Understand and perform algebra.
Understand and perform basic weights and measurements.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience in formula room or pharmacy setting.
Some college coursework
Certified Nursing Assistant or Registered Nutrition Technician
Knowledge of Bridge System and Cerner EHR
Pay Range
$18.00 – $23.54 /hour
