Your Petco Grooming Career
As a Pet Stylist at Petco, you are responsible for providing professional grooming services to our valued customers’ pets. You will ensure that each pet receives exceptional care, leaving them looking and feeling their best. Your performance will directly contribute to the quality experience Petco strives to deliver to every pet parent.
Responsibilities
- Perform professional grooming services including bathing, drying, brushing, haircuts and styling, nail trimming, ear cleaning, and gland cleaning, following pet parents’ instructions and company policies.
- Operate and maintain grooming instruments such as clippers, blades, shears, brushes, and dryers.
- Prioritize the well‑being and safety of every animal, monitoring for discomfort, illness, or injury, and reporting concerns to pet owners and store management.
- Assess individual pet needs considering coat type, skin condition, and temperament.
- Provide superior customer service to pet parents, addressing inquiries, offering recommendations, and resolving issues promptly.
- Educate pet parents on grooming maintenance and at‑home care practices to promote long‑term pet health.
- Maintain a clean and safe grooming area, sanitizing tools and equipment daily, and perform weekly cleaning tasks such as cleaning air filters, vents, and drains.
- Adhere to Petco’s grooming policies, standards, and guidelines, ensuring consistency and quality.
- Support and supervise entry‑level trainees in the absence of a Grooming Salon Leader when needed.

Education & Experience
- Successful completion of the Pet Stylist Apprentice program with Petco, or prior experience as a professional groomer and/or completion of a technical grooming training program.
- High‑school diploma or GED (preferred but not required).
- Sound judgment and problem‑solving skills in routine to moderately complex situations.
- Results‑driven with commitment to productivity, performance, and ownership of role.
- Strong attention to detail, ensuring precision and high standards.
- Passion for animals and a desire to continue a career in pet grooming.
- Expert knowledge of dog breeds, grooming requirements, common health issues and behaviors.
- Proficiency in breed‑specific cuts, styling techniques, and grooming standards.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to handle pets of all sizes and temperaments with care and empathy.
- Availability to work weekends, evenings, and holidays as required by the grooming schedule.
Work Environment
The majority of duties are conducted indoors in the grooming salon and require bending, kneeling, lifting up to 30 pounds, and standing for extended periods. The job may involve exposure to heights using a two‑step ladder or other support tools, and may require working with vacuums. The environment can be noisy and wet.
Salary Range
Salary Range: $15.00 – $23.00
