At Wildland Trekking our mission is to be a global leader in adventure travel by providing exceptional hiking adventures in a responsible, sustainable way that promotes the conservation of both natural and human communities.
We offer small‑group, multi‑day backpacking trips, llama/mule‑supported trips, day hikes, car‑camping basecamp style, and inn‑based hiking trips for adults and families seeking unforgettable hiking vacations in majestic landscapes. Guests can expect delicious meals and extraordinary guides who transform a great getaway into an inspiring adventure.
We are currently looking for guides to support the remainder of our season in the North Carolina region. The seasonal role runs through the end of September/October, and we welcome successful guides to return in future seasons.
As a Guide, you will enhance the lives of our guests by leading and facilitating safe, fun, positive, and unforgettable outdoor adventure experiences while fostering respect and appreciation for the special places we travel in.
Responsibilities
- Guest email correspondence before the trip
- Gear and food preparation
- Pre‑trip orientation meeting
- Assist guests in learning basic skills (backpack adjusting, tent setup, etc.)
- Provide natural and cultural history interpretation
- Risk management, first aid, and cooking and clean‑up
- Gear repair in the field, solution of post‑trip issues, and trip debrief
- Drive groups to and from the trailhead when required, including trailer towing
- Manage multi‑day trips of 3–7 days, 5–12 miles per day
- For llama trips, train as a llama wrangler and assume all llama‑related duties
Qualifications
- 21 years or older (required by insurance to drive)
- 1–2 years of personal and/or professional multi‑day guiding experience in the backcountry
- Willingness to run any trip type barring a physical restriction discussed and accommodated upon hire
- Successful completion of WTC Guide Training Course, shadow trip, and all applicable trainings
- Competence in backcountry travel and living skills
- Current Wilderness First Responder (WFR) or Wilderness Emergency Technician (WEMT) and Adult CPR certification
- Backcountry Food Handlers or Serv Safe certification
- Background and motor vehicle investigation clearance
- Drug test (California only)
- Ability to lift and carry a heavy backpack (45–65 lb) for multiple hours/days
- Front‑country trips: ability to move heavy loads and carry a moderate backpack (25–35 lb)
- Willing and able to guide at least two trips monthly during peak season
- Commercial driving experience preferred; ability to drive and maneuver with a cargo trailer
