Exxaro Resources is seeking a Group Manager, Medical Health & Wellbeing, based in Centurion, Gauteng. This strategic leadership role oversees Occupational Health and Wellbeing across the Group, driving integrated health frameworks, policies, and assurance mechanisms to protect employee health, ensure fitness for work, and prevent occupational diseases. The role requires expertise managing complex health risks in mining, industrial, and resource environments and delivering compliance with regulatory requirements. You will lead capability development, influence across diverse operations, and provide expert advice to executive leadership. Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (Essential/Minimum).
  • Postgraduate Diploma in Occupational Medicine & Health (Recommended/Desirable).
  • Master of Business Administration (Recommended/Desirable).
  • Minimum 10-12 years’ experience in occupational health, mining health, industrial health, or workforce health management environments.
  • At least 8 years’ experience in senior leadership or specialist leadership roles within large, complex industrial, mining, energy, manufacturing, or resource organisations.
  • Demonstrated expertise in developing and implementing occupational health strategies, governance frameworks, standards, and policies across multiple operations.
  • Strong understanding of occupational health legislation, occupational disease management, and health risk management.
  • Proven experience leading organisational health improvement, assurance, and compliance programmes.
  • Experience managing multidisciplinary occupational health and wellbeing programmes across geographically dispersed operations.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Provide medical and strategic leadership for Occupational Health and Wellbeing across the Group, ensuring alignment with organisational objectives and sustainability commitments.
  • Develop, implement, and maintain integrated, enterprise-wide health frameworks, standards, policies, and assurance mechanisms to protect occupational health, promote workforce wellbeing, and prevent occupational diseases.
  • Establish and oversee assurance frameworks to monitor compliance with occupational health standards, conduct audits, and evaluate performance of health systems and programmes.
  • Lead the identification, assessment, monitoring, and mitigation of occupational health risks, including managing exposure monitoring, medical surveillance, and fitness-for-work evaluations.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives in occupational health capability development, leveraging data analytics, emerging technology, and best practices to enhance health outcomes.
  • Provide specialist advice and expert guidance to executive leadership, governance forums, and operational stakeholders on occupational health risks, regulatory compliance, and strategic workforce health interventions.
  • Foster a high-performance team culture by mentoring, empowering, and developing a multidisciplinary occupational health and wellbeing team across geographically dispersed operations.
  • Coordinate and influence health governance across diverse commodities, jurisdictions, and workforce profiles, ensuring consistent application of Group standards without direct line control over site-based resources.
  • Maintain proactive engagement with regulatory bodies, organised labour, and external stakeholders to anticipate and respond to evolving occupational health legislation and industry trends.
  • Drive organisational health assurance, reporting on key health indicators, trends, and risks to functional committees, executive management, and Board subcommittees to support informed decision-making.
