Primary Objective

The City of Bloomington is seeking an individual to assist with weekly Parks and Recreation Naturalist and History programs.

Examples of Duties

  • Assist Naturalist and History program staff in carrying out a variety of engaging programs for the public.
  • Work with Coordinators in designing and delivering programs at Pond Dakota Mission Park and other locations throughout the City.
  • Maintain positive and fun attitude in welcoming visitors to programs and delivering program information.
  • Assist with other Special Events as needed.
  • Represent the City of Bloomington in a positive and professional manner at all times.

Minimum / Desirable Qualifications

  • High quality communication skills and ability to interact effectively with the public.
  • Ability to work a varied schedule, including primarily weekends.
  • Ability to work both independently and with a team
  • Ability to lift and place tables and canopies, and assist with setup for a variety of programs
  • Attention to detail, punctual, and dependable.

Supplemental Information

Position to begin in August, but there is some flexibility in starting date. 10-15 hours per week on average. Most work to take place on Saturdays and Sundays, with opportunities for additional hours for other events. Job duties to take place at locations throughout the city.

Incentives

Commitment Bonus – A seasonal employee who works until at least August 9th will receive $100 bonus on their final paycheck.

Referral Bonus – A seasonal employee who refers a new seasonal employee will receive $100 bonus on their final paycheck. Referral paperwork required within one week of employees start date and both employees must be employed for the entirety of the scheduled season to be eligible.

Ongoing Part-Time employees who are employed for more than 6 months will make contributions to the pension program (PERA) through payroll deductions unless they qualify for one of the exemptions. In addition, Part-Time may receive Paid-time Off (PTO) at rate outlined in employee handbook and eligible for paid parental leave after 6 months of employment.

Temporary/Seasonal employees do not receive benefits outside of Paid-time Off (PTO) at rate outlined in employee handbook.
