Hours: 36–40 hours/week
Reports To: Chief of Staff/Kennel Manager
JOB SUMMARY
Keeps Planned PEThood’s kennel, warehouse, storage, and facility spaces safe, clean, and organized. Combines animal care and kennel support with inventory, warehouse, facility and vehicle upkeep.
PRIMARY JOB DUTIES
Animal Care
- Provide daily care for overnight, surgery/recovery, foster, and other on-site animals
- Keep living areas clean with fresh bedding, food, and water
- Monitor recovery patients as directed
- Report health or behavior issues to veterinary staff
- Assist kennel staff with cleaning and animal movement
- Set up, break down, and store crates for housing and transport
Facilities, Cleaning & Maintenance
- Empty trash, sweep, mop, clean bathrooms, restock supplies
- Do laundry: wash, dry, fold, return
- Keep grounds free of trash and animal waste
- Identify maintenance, repair, or safety issues – ability to make minor repairs a plus
- Report issues to the Chief of Staff and Kennel Manager as appropriate
- Support building projects for safety and efficiency
- Assist with daily cleaning as assigned
- Perform other duties as assigned
Inventory & Warehouse
- Organize and improve warehouse and storage layout
- Build inventory and distribution processes for non-medical supplies
- Maintain storage systems and inspect crates/equipment for damage
- Organize and label attic and secondary storage
- Keep accurate inventory and storage records
- Support sorting and redistributing donations
Deliveries & Distribution
- Accept non-pharmacy deliveries and route appropriately
- Sort donations for internal and external distribution
- Coordinate with Chief of Staff on storage and distribution
Vehicle & Mobile Unit Cleaning
- Clean the FIDO mobile unit weekly, inside and out
- Report FIDO maintenance needs
- Wash other organization vans, inside and out
- Schedule and drive vehicles for service, repairs, gasoline, etc.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Keep kennel, warehouse, and storage areas clean and functional
- Build inventory and storage systems for non-medical items
- Maintain a safe work environment for staff, volunteers and customers
- Lift, move, sort, and organize supplies and materials
- Work independently and respond to daily needs
- Communicate progress, needs, and concerns to leadership
- Follow safety and animal handling procedures
QUALIFICATIONS
Experience (Preferred)
- Comfortable handling dogs and cats
- Maintenance, janitorial, tool crib, warehouse, or logistics experience
- Familiarity with basic OSHA standards, willingness to learn
- Familiarity with veterinary cleaning/PPE protocols, willingness to learn
- Experience improving inventory processes

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
- Stand, walk, bend, reach, mop, scrub, lift, carry, push, pull
- Lift 50 lbs. unassisted
- Safely move equipment and animal materials
- See, hear, and communicate effectively
- Safely interact with dogs and cats
- No allergies to pet dander or waste or the ability to effectively control same
- Potential and prolonged exposures to various aqueous solutions including but not limited to dish soap, chlorhexidine, and spectra soap; isopropanol and hydrogen peroxide; formalin solution; isoflurane gas; quaternary ammonium cleaners and bleach; pressurized steam; sharps including needles and surgical blades.
WORK SCHEDULE
- Full-time, hourly, non-exempt
- Four 10-hour or five 8-hour shifts, or a mix
WORK ENVIRONMENT
The offices and operations of HQHVSN clinics and mobile units can be high stress and very busy at times. This position spans the kennel, clinic, warehouse, attic storage, facility areas, and organization vehicles including the FIDO mobile unit and involves hands-on animal care, cleaning, minor mechanical, maintenance, driving company vehicles, and independent project work. Exceptional teamwork is key. The schedule can change and may sometimes require weekend or evening hours for meetings, training, or events. Planned PEThood is committed to maintaining a work schedule that is satisfactory for individual staff members as well as the overall organization and our communities’ animals and their families.
Pay: $16.00 – $20.00 per hour
