Pet Vet Care Centers’ Hagyard Equine is seeking veterinary technicians or vet assistants for various departments with a strong interest in equine medicine!
About the Practice:
At Hagyard Equine Medical Institute, our team is dedicated to providing the highest level of service to the equine industry. As the oldest and largest private equine veterinary practice with 150 years of valued service, we specialize in full‑service care, from routine health management to emergency procedures, diagnostics, and laboratory services. We are looking for passionate and skilled Equine Veterinary Technicians and Vet Assistants to join us.
We have multiple openings within Surgery, Internal Medicine, and other specialties, and are looking for candidates across multiple shifts, with a priority on those who are available for our afternoon or overnight shifts. Selections will depend on skill set, experience, scheduling availability, and individual interest.
General Technician and Vet Assistant Opportunities
- In our general technician positions, you will be working with a group of team members within Internal Medicine or Surgery Barn.
- Hours depend on team needs as we maintain 24×7 coverage, primarily on afternoon and overnight shifts and weekend availability.
- Responsibilities may include patient care via administering medications and treatments, monitoring patient behavior and status, maintaining patient records, collecting samples, and assisting with patient handling, hospital workflow, admission and discharge, oral medications, treatments, and IV fluids.
- Your work location will be primarily in clinic.
Specialized Technician Opportunities
- In our specialty technician positions, you will serve as a Doctor or Surgeon’s individual technician, or work in a specialized area of the practice such as Anesthesia, Theriogenology, or Ophthalmology.
- Hours depend on the Doctor or Surgeon. These positions are typically day shift (approximately 7 AM to 5 or 6 PM), but extended availability during the week as well as weekend availability may be needed.
- Responsibilities include reviewing patients, administering treatments, preparing medications, fluids, and supplies, and administrative and billing duties. As an individual technician, you may also have responsibilities in preparing for procedures, surgeries, and appointments.
- Specialty Technician opportunities will include in‑clinic and out‑of‑clinic responsibilities, such as farm calls or field work.
Qualifications
- Prior experience with horses (personal experience included) is required. Preference for candidates with prior work or equine technician experience.
- Associate’s degree or equivalent from a two‑year college or technical school, six months to one year of related experience and/or training, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Veterinary Technician License or other equine certifications are not required but are a significant benefit.
Schedule
Schedule will depend on the position selected, based on experience, availability, and priority needs of the team. Our shifts are generally as follows (some variation may occur):
- Day Shift 7:30 AM – 3:30 PM
- Evening Shift 3:30 PM – 11:30 PM
- Night Shift 11:30 PM – 7:30 AM
Weekend availability is typically required but can depend on specific opening. Specific details will be discussed during the interview process.
