Clinic Manager – Veterinary Technician – Job Description

JOB DETAILS

The Judy and Doug Lowrie Spay and Neuter Clinic, a subset of the Washington County Johnson City Animal Shelter, is searching for a Licensed Veterinary Technician to be the Clinic Manager. This position is a full-time role primarily charged with ensuring smooth continued operation of the clinic. Must be a Licensed Veterinary Technician (Tennessee) to be considered for the position. Job duties encompass both clinical and managerial aspects.

ABOUT THE COMPANY

The Judy and Doug Lowrie Spay and Neuter Clinic was started in 2022 to offer low cost, high quality spay and neuter services to the shelter, the surrounding animal rescues, and the community. To date the clinic has performed close to 20,000 spay and neuter surgeries. The mission of the clinic is to provide a sustainable, low-cost, high-quality spay/neuter clinic readily available to the Washington County Johnson City Animal Shelter and the surrounding community for the purpose of preventing homeless, unwanted animals in our community.

JOB DUTIES AND EXPECTATIONS

· Check in and discharge surgical patients

· Handle all medication dispensing

· Assist with physical examinations including safe restraint

· Anesthetize, intubate, and maintain anesthesia for both dogs and cats

· Safely monitor surgical patients during all aspects of surgery including but not limited to induction, surgery, and post-operative time frames

· Communicate patient status with veterinarian and staff and take appropriate actions as directed

· Strong written and oral communication skills including the ability to educate clients effectively

· Maintain valid Veterinary Technician license (Tennessee)

· Contribute to a positive work environment

· Crosstrain in areas of the shelter, as appropriate

SUPERVISORY DUTIES

· Train, supervise and support clinic support staff, to include Veterinary Assistants, Vet Interns and Externs and Administrative Assistants

· Encourage and promote professional development of clinic staff

· Lead the team in a positive manner and provide leadership, mentorship and guidance

· Provide regular performance feedback to the Medical Director and Director Medical Operations

· Conduct performance reviews for clinic support staff

· Mediate and problem solve in the moment with staff and clients

· Assist, oversee and guide all staff with their duties as needed

· In the event of vacancies or absences, fulfill the necessary duties to ensure the smooth operation of the clinic

· Coordinate with the Medical Director and Executive Director to ensure quality veterinary care of client and employee-owned animals

· Maintain up-to-date Standards and Protocols for the veterinary clinic including sanitation, fear-free animal handling, medical care and customer service

· Oversee daily, weekly and monthly inventory and ensure all medical logs are up to date and accurate

· Track ordering and reconciling invoices

· Work directly with S/N staff and Front Office Manager to provide services for clients

· Treat clients with respect and non-judgement, understanding the mission of the Judy and Doug Lowrie Spay and Neuter Clinic and the Washington County Johnson City Animal Shelter to provide low-cost care to animals and owners in need.

· Set up and confirm the surgery and appointment days in the Clinic HQ software and adjust based on need

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

· Full-time employment, 40 hours per week

· 8-hour shifts, 7:30am-4pm

· Must be able to lift up to 40 lbs

· Job will consist of standing, walking, bending and sitting

· Ability to work in the presence of animals, wildlife, strong odors and cleaning solutions

QUALIFICATIONS

· Must be licensed veterinary technician with valid license to practice (required)

· No previous drug related felonies

· Clinical management experience (preferred)

· Experience with safely handling and restraining both cats and dogs

· Experience with Fear Free Handling or Low Stress Handling is a plus

· Ability to work independently and as a part of a team

· Outstanding interpersonal skills

· Excellent communication skills

· Good problem solving skills

· Ability to work basic computer applications as well as various software programs

· Punctual

· Positive attitude

Pay: $20.00 – $25.00 per hour

Expected hours: 40.0 per week
