Business Manager: Health & Nutrition (Johannesburg)
An established international testing, inspection and certification organisation is seeking an experienced Business Manager to lead its Health & Nutrition operations across Southern Africa.
The role carries full operational and commercial responsibility for the Food, Seed & Crop business, including food laboratory microbiology and chemistry services.
Key responsibilities:
- Lead the business in accordance with company and group policies.
- Develop and execute the regional business strategy.
- Expand existing services and introduce new services in collaboration with the business development team.
- Prepare budgets, forecasts and performance reports.
- Monitor financial and operational results, identify shortfalls and implement corrective measures.
- Improve profitability, efficiency and resource utilisation.
- Build and develop the organisation’s technical capabilities.
- Recruit, train and retain suitably qualified personnel.
- Create a cohesive, engaged and high-performing team.
- Maintain high standards of laboratory quality, technical integrity and safety.
- Ensure implementation and ongoing maintenance of the company’s Quality Assurance Programme.
- Ensure compliance with relevant legislation, regulations, standards and accreditation requirements.
- Build strong relationships with customers and other key stakeholders.
Qualifications and competencies:
- A relevant tertiary qualification in Engineering, Food Science, Agriculture / related discipline.
- A high standard of written and spoken English and Afrikaans.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook.
- Strong commercial, financial and operational management skills.
- Effective leadership, communication and stakeholder-management abilities.
Experience:
- At least 10 years’ relevant experience in engineering, health and nutrition, food testing.
- Sound knowledge of the food testing and laboratory services market.
- Demonstrated experience managing budgets, resources, people and business performance.
- Experience in a testing laboratory environment would be a strong advantage.
- Practical understanding of food laboratory microbiology and chemistry.
- Experience overseeing Food, Seed & Crop operations would be advantageous.
The successful candidate will combine scientific or technical understanding with strong commercial leadership.
They will be responsible for maximising the business’s efficiency, growth and profitability while maintaining rigorous standards of quality, safety and regulatory compliance.
