Purpose:

The successful candidates will support the Real Estate, Construction & Conservation Law team in delivering high-quality legal advisory and representation services across various aspects of real estate, construction and conservation matters including:

Conveyancing: land acquisitions and disposals, sale and lease back transactions, real estate transaction through acquisition of companies or business in real estate

Conservation, Tourism and Leisure: advise on a wide array of tourism transactions, including acquisition and disposals of lodges and camps, establishment and strengthening of private and community conservancies, wildlife conservation and management matters, environmental and planning laws, and the exciting confluence between all these transactions and real estate law and concepts.

REIT’s, Real Estate Funds and Industrial Real Estate: advising promoters on the real estate aspects of establishment of Real Estate Investment Trusts, unique aspects of real estate investments by Real Estate Funds and Industrial Real Estate maters, including within Special Economic Zones and Export Processing Zones.

Construction: advising on all aspects of construction and development projects, including negotiating and drafting construction contracts (including FIDIC, JBC and bespoke forms), professional consultants appointments, construction procurement advisory, and project delivery mechanisms. This includes providing legal support from project inception through to completion and handover.

Experience and Qualifications:

This role focuses on the transactional and deal-structuring aspects of real estate matters. The successful candidate will handle commercial structuring for real estate transactions, real estate joint venture arrangements, master planned developments, and related regulatory compliance. Key competencies include:

Educational Background: LLB degree with a strong academic record; admission to practice in Kenya.

Professional Experience: 3-5 years’ PQE at a top-tier or reputable mid-sized law firm, with demonstrable experience in commercial real estate and conveyancing transactions.

Technical Competencies: strong understanding of commercial structuring, company law, due diligence processes, transaction management, drafting and negotiating real estate agreements, joint venture agreements, real estate companies’ shareholder agreements, and related transactional documentation. Familiarity with REITs, real estate funds and investment vehicles is an advantage.

Key Accountabilities:

  • Commercial acumen: exceptional drafting, negotiation and analytical skills, coupled with demonstratable track record of supporting senior lawyers dealing with corporate and multinational clients. High level of accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Communication and Interpersonal skills: excellent communication, presentation, research, and analytical skills and the ability to work in a large and dynamic team.
  • Business Development: ability to build, develop, nurture and leverage internal and external networks, collaborate effectively across functions, engage confidently with clients.
