Role Description The Zoologist will work full time on site in Chennai, focusing on the study, care, and monitoring of animals within Gloum’s programs and facilities. Day-to-day responsibilities include observing and documenting animal behavior, assessing animal health and welfare, and supporting habitat management in alignment with ecological best practices. The role involves conducting field and facility-based research, collecting and analyzing data on wildlife and animal populations, and preparing reports and recommendations for program development. The Zoologist will collaborate with care staff, environmental specialists, and community partners to create education materials, support outreach initiatives, and ensure compliance with relevant animal care standards and regulations. The role also requires maintaining accurate records, participating in training activities, and contributing to continuous improvement of animal care protocols.
Qualifications
- Strong foundation in Zoology, with the ability to apply scientific principles to practical animal care and research settings.
- Demonstrated skills in Animal Care, including handling, feeding, health monitoring, and welfare assessments.
- Knowledge of Ecology and Wildlife management, with experience in habitat evaluation, conservation practices, or field surveys.
- Experience or training in Animal Behavior, including observation techniques, behavioral analysis, and documentation.
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Zoology, Wildlife Biology, Ecology, or a closely related field.
- Ability to work safely in outdoor and on-site environments, with attention to risk management and animal handling guidelines.
- Strong analytical, documentation, and report-writing skills, with proficiency in basic data collection and analysis tools.
- Effective interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to collaborate with multidisciplinary teams and engage with community stakeholders.
- Prior experience in research institutions, zoos, wildlife rehabilitation centers, or conservation projects is an advantage.
