UNICEF works in over 190 countries and territories to protect the rights and well-being of every child. In Botswana, UNICEF is partnering with ABSA Botswana to address youth unemployment through the Skilling and Employability Training Programme, equipping young people with the skills they need to succeed in the workplace while supporting broader adolescent development, HIV prevention, and Generation Unlimited initiatives.

The Youth Project Coordinator will be based in Gaborone, Botswana, providing day-to-day coordination and technical support for the implementation of the Skilling and Employability Training Programme. The role will lead the operational delivery of the virtual training phase, supervise and mentor youth volunteers (Ready To Work Champions), and contribute to UNICEF’s wider Adolescent and Youth Programme.

Key Responsibilities,

  • Coordinate the implementation of the Skilling and Employability Training Programme, ensuring quality delivery and achievement of programme targets.
  • Supervise, mentor, and support 50 Ready To Work (RTW) Champions delivering virtual employability training.
  • Coordinate programme implementation with ABSA Botswana and other partners, including meetings, reporting, and operational planning.
  • Monitor programme performance, budgets, risks, and implementation progress while supporting adaptive programme management.
  • Oversee volunteer performance, wellbeing, training quality, scheduling, and coaching.
  • Ensure high-quality virtual training delivery, track enrolment and completion rates, and promote equitable participation, including youth with disabilities and NEET youth.
  • Support monitoring, evaluation, learning, data management, reporting, and documentation of lessons learned.
  • Contribute to adolescent HIV programming, Generation Unlimited activities, partnership engagement, and youth development initiatives.

Profile Required

Experience: Minimum of 3 years of relevant professional experience in:

  • Project coordination
  • Youth programming and skills development
  • Volunteer or community facilitator management
  • Programme implementation and partnership coordination
  • Monitoring, evaluation, and reporting
  • Digital learning platforms and data management systems

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Social Sciences, Development Studies, Public Health, Education, Business Administration, or a related field.

Languages

  • Fluent English
  • Knowledge of Setswana is an asset.
