Job Description
The On-Call Biologist will be responsible for various environmental consulting services, including construction monitoring, avian species identification, nest surveys, general and focused biological field surveys, and support. They will assist with writing and reviewing technical reports and supporting documents such as Biological Technical Reports, Biological Assessments, and technical memos. The role also involves providing as-needed field and office support to our local and regional Natural Resource team members.
Key Responsibilities
Plan and execute field assignments in Central Coast California, with occasional travel to counties including San Luis Obispo, Santa Barbara, and Ventura.
Conduct biological surveys and monitoring according to relevant regulations, codes, and standards.
Document field findings in logs, reports, memos, or emails.
Communicate with client field contacts and senior biologists.
About On-Call Employment with ICF
ICF hires environmental professionals as “On-Call” employees due to the seasonal or project-specific nature of our work. On-Call employees are scheduled for work hours as they become available, typically a few weeks in advance, and can accept or refuse assigned hours. They may work on multiple projects outside of their ICF assignment, provided there is no conflict of interest.
Minimum Requirements
BA/BS in Biology, Ecology, or related discipline
At least 1 year of environmental/consulting and biological field experience
Valid driver’s license and successful MVR check
Preferred Skills
Documentation and data management experience
Experience in environmental compliance and/or construction fields
GIS skills
Intermediate or advanced nest surveying and monitoring skills
Basic botanical knowledge of California
Avian nest monitoring and species identification
Teamwork, communication, organizational skills
Availability for next-day deployment and travel to rugged sites
Experience working on active construction sites
Proficiency in MS Office
