Position: Veterinary Technician Tier 1
Position Status: Hourly, Full-Time, Non-Exempt
Reports To: Medical Manager
Pay Rate: $19 per hr.
Position Overview
The Technician reports directly to the section managers. The Tier 1 Veterinary Technician position provides medical care and treatment for cats and dogs. This includes routine vaccinations, diagnostic testing, patient treatments, and assisting the DVM’s in surgery. Candidates for this position must have 1yr of prior experience working as a veterinary assistant or as a technician, preferably in an animal shelter environment.
General Duties
Follow all daily surgery and appointment schedules, ensuring our veterinarian’s time is maximized.
Coordinate patient care plans, maintain cleanliness in medical areas, and contribute to a collaborative and supportive working environment.
Ensure medical records for animals are accurate and up to date
Maintain medical equipment in both medical departments
Restrain animals as needed.
Assist with surgical prep, monitoring, and recovery
Perform Digital Radiographs
Perform dental cleanings on cats and dogs
Administer vaccinations
Perform in-house diagnostic testing
Assist with medical rounds as needed.
Create, update, and maintain patient medical records.
Keep work areas organized and stocked with medical supplies needed to perform daily functions.
Clean and disinfect cages, treatment areas, and rooms as needed.
Provide excellent overall patient experience.

Requirements:
Position Requirements
High school graduate required.
Ability and willingness to become Fear Free Certified within 60 days of hire.
Skills Needed
Excellent customer service and interpersonal skills required.
Safe and gentle animal handling and restraint of dogs and cats.
Ability to identify signs of animal illness, diseases, and injuries.
Emotionally capable of dealing with euthanasia when necessary.
Possess a clear understanding of shelter diseases, shelter medicine, and quarantine.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office products, Outlook, and ability to learn shelter software products.
Proficiency with using and maintaining veterinary medical equipment.
Physical Requirements
Must be able to lift 50 pounds safely
This position is labor-intensive; moderate to great physical exertion is required; including bending, stooping, kneeling, reaching above/below the waist, pushing/pulling movements, lifting, walking, sitting, and standing and in conditions involving temperature fluctuations.
Must work with cleaning solvents.
Must have reliable transportation.
Must be allergy-free and able to work closely with dogs and cats.
