South Asheville Veterinary Emergency & Specialty (SAVES) is seeking a full-time Technician Assistant to join our Emergency & Critical Care team in Asheville, NC. This is an excellent opportunity for someone with veterinary experience who enjoys working in a fast-paced specialty hospital while supporting Veterinary Technicians, doctors, and hospitalized patients through exceptional patient care and teamwork.
Our Emergency & Critical Care team values communication, mentorship, reliability, and collaboration. You’ll work alongside experienced emergency professionals in a recently expanded, state-of-the-art specialty hospital equipped with advanced technology to support exceptional patient care.
Compensation

Responsibilities
- Maintain cleanliness and organization throughout the Emergency & Critical Care and ICU departments.
- Stock treatment areas and ensure medical supplies are readily available.
- Assist Veterinary Technicians and veterinarians with patient restraint for examinations, treatments, and procedures.
- Walk and provide daily husbandry care for hospitalized patients.
- Obtain and record patient vital signs as directed.
- Assist with obtaining diagnostic radiographs.
- Run in-house laboratory samples.
- Fill prescriptions under hospital protocols.
- Follow OSHA regulations and hospital safety standards.
- Support efficient workflow while promoting a positive, team-oriented environment.
- Demonstrate SAVES’ core values through professionalism, communication, and a One Team mentality.
- Perform additional duties as assigned to support the Emergency & Critical Care team.
Qualifications
- Minimum of one year of experience in veterinary medicine required
- Experience safely handling and restraining canine and feline patients
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced Emergency & Critical Care environment
- Strong communication skills and a positive, team-oriented attitude
- Reliable, adaptable, and committed to delivering compassionate patient care
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office required
- Experience with Ezy Vet and Smart Flow preferred
- Ability to read and interpret medical records, discharge instructions, estimates, medication instructions, and hospital protocols
- Ability to perform basic mathematical calculations for patient care tasks
- Ability to lift and restrain animals weighing more than 50 pounds with assistance when appropriate
- Comfortable with frequent standing, walking, bending, lifting, and working in a physically active hospital environment
- Bilingual or multilingual communication skills are a plus
- Fluent English speaking and reading skills required
