Ranch Heights Veterinary is seeking a Veterinary Technician Assistant to join our team in our brand new, family-owned veterinary hospital. We are located in Costa Mesa in the beautiful Ranch at Newport Bay shopping center. The Technician team will provide superior patient care; work as a team with doctors, room assistants, and technicians; and help Ranch Heights Veterinary in our mission to “Reach New Heights in Veterinary Care”.
The Veterinary Technician Assistant supports the veterinarians, veterinary technicians and receptionists in all duties of the hospital and ensures a comfortable and sanitary environment for all patients under treatment at Ranch Heights Veterinary (RHV). He/she has an understanding of basic clerical procedures/systems, up-to-date knowledge of veterinary procedures and services, excels at patient care, and has the ability to multitask in a busy environment. Previous experience in the veterinary field is required for this position, and knowledge of ezyVet software is a plus, but not required.
Major Goals:
Receive, handle and treat patients with skill, compassion and care including accurately recording medical observations and accurately carrying out treatments or assigned duties.
Ability to clean and sanitize treatment areas as assigned to ensure a safe, sanitary environment for the patients.
Accurately administer medications under the supervision of a doctor.
Input data into computer software system in an accurate and timely manner.
Ability to observe animal appearance and activity for general physical condition, obvious signs of illness, disease and discontent.
Strong communication and client service skills. Considerable tact and diplomacy are required.
Ability to work with clients and patients in a professional, friendly, hospitable manner.
Perform procedures such as nail trims, ear cleanings, venipuncture.
Work well with all team members and ensure that your actions support the hospital, the doctors, and the practice philosophy.
Perform general physical activities that require bending, standing, stooping, moving from room to room, sit, talk, and listen; may be required to walk or stand for long periods of time; will use hands to manipulate, handle, restrain, or feel; will reach with hands and arms.
Frequently lift, carry and handle cats, and dogs weighing up to 50 lbs.
Skills:
Ability to work independently on assigned tasks as well as to accept directions on given assignments.
Critical thinking – Understanding logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions or approaches to problems.
Ability to assist veterinarians in the practice of medicine and surgery.
Ability to remain calm in the face of various types of pressure, not allowing emotions to overwhelm attitude and/or performance.
Strong client skills, especially verbal and written communication.
Ability to foster a positive work environment for colleagues.
Requirements:
Previous experience in a veterinary hospital
Proficiency with ezyVet software is a plus, but not required
Reliable, professional, courteous and patient
Excellent communication and writing skills
Willingness to learn and be part of a team
Regular attendance and timeliness are an essential function of this position.
