Full Job Description
The Morgan County Humane Society is currently looking to hire a licensed veterinary technician for the position of Intake/Medical Coordinator. This role is responsible for providing direct care and record keeping for current and new shelter animals. Assists customers and animal control officers with incoming animals, ensuring all animals receive an exam, and all intake vaccinations and other medications as necessary.
Basic Job Duties:
Enters accurate and complete information on each animal into PetPoint.
Ensures that all necessary forms are available and in adequate supply.
Receives incoming telephone calls to department to which assigned.
Helps in the day-to-day operation of the Intake Department. This includes answering the telephones, maintaining records and files as required, inputting animal data into computer and such other clerical duties as may be assigned from time to time.
Conduct admission exams, including recording weights, vaccinations, parasite control, Felv testing and general health of animals upon arrival at the shelter.
Microchipping animals.
Remain professional and courteous with customers and other staff members at all times.
Maintains the intake office in a neat and orderly fashion at all times.
Triage sick, injured, and contagious animals.
Ensures all shelter animals are kept up to date on vaccinations and parasite prevention.
Fill out medication sheets thoroughly to ensure all animals receive the appropriate medication and amounts.
Ability to give sub-q fluids.
Monitor supplies and make sure all items are kept in stock.
Educate customers on stray cats vs. TNR or Community Cats.
Represents the intake department in coordination with the Kennel Manager in the absence of management.
Other duties as assigned, including assisting with or performing duties of a kennel attendant as needed.
Qualifications/Requirements/Skills:
Licensed Veterinary Technician
Attention to detail
Must have basic computer skills
Ability to ensure the practice of animal health/welfare according to policies and procedures of MCHS.
Ability to deal tactfully and effectively with staff, volunteers, and the general public. Have the ability to communicate the English language effectively in oral and written form.
Basic knowledge of animal breeds and characteristics.
Basic knowledge of animal health, nutrition, and humane care.
Time management and organizational skills
Time Commitments/Expectations
40 hour work week
Must be available to work any day of the week, including weekends.

The employee is continuously exposed to animals, animal waste, high noise and potentially hazardous conditions, including the risk of animal bites.
