The Beaver County Humane Society, located in Center Township, PA, is currently seeking a Certified Veterinary Technician to assist in all duties relating to the medical care of animals in the shelter as directed by the veterinarian. Full-time position.
· The successful candidate must be able to administer vaccinations, give medications, draw blood, perform general physical examinations, perform IM and SC injections, assist with radiographs, have knowledge of care, cleaning and sterilization of surgical instruments, follow guidelines of proper shelter cleaning, provide guidance to shelter staff and volunteers regarding medical protocols, assist with managing medical inventory as directed, participate in community clinics and outreach events, communicate with the public and fosters regarding medical services and care of patients, practice safe and low-stress animal handling and restraint. CVT candidates must also be able to perform diagnostic tests (cytology, fecal samples, blood work, patient side tests) perform euthanasia, give IV injections, place IV catheters, intubate surgical patients, perform dental procedures, perform dental radiographs, and have a strong knowledge of surgery and recovery. Previous shelter and/or HQHVSN experience is preferred but not required. This position will provide patient care to all species presented, in accordance with organizational procedures and resources. A successful candidate will have strong communication skills, have a team-oriented mindset, be comfortable in a fast-paced environment that can be emotionally challenging, and a commitment to the mission and values of animal welfare. All candidates must have basic computer skills.
CVT with a minimum of 1 years’ experience required. Previous shelter or HQHVSN experience preferred. Non CVT candidates must have a minimum of 2 years’ experience in the veterinary field and prior shelter experience. The ability to work a flexible schedule including days, evenings, weekends and holidays is a must.
Wage: $18.00-$23.00 – Dependent upon experience and credentials. Amazing benefits package for full-time employment includes vacation and sick time, CE allowance for licensed candidates, 100% medical/dental/eye, covered by employer and more.
Hours: 40 hours per week, schedule will vary, based on a fluctuating workload and organizational requirements. The individual performing this job may be required to work more than 8 hours in a day or 40 hours in a week.
Successful completion of a drug test and background check will be required before the applicant to whom an offer has been extended can assume employment.
