Responsibilities

  • Assist veterinarians during medical examinations, surgeries, and diagnostic procedures using proper aseptic techniques.
  • Perform laboratory tests, collect samples for analysis, and manage medical records with precision using veterinary software.
  • Handle animals safely and confidently, including dog handling, animal restraint, and kennel management to ensure stress-free visits.
  • Conduct animal husbandry tasks such as feeding, cleaning, grooming, and monitoring health status to promote optimal care.
  • Support medical procedures like animal catheterization, wound management, and administering medications in accordance with veterinary terminology and protocols.
  • Communicate effectively with clients regarding pet care instructions, treatment plans, and follow-up appointments to foster trust and understanding.
  • Maintain compliance with Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) regulations and USDA guidelines related to medication storage and record keeping.
  • Support front desk operations by scheduling appointments, managing client communication, and assisting with veterinary administrative tasks.

Qualifications

  • Proven experience in veterinary clinics or animal hospitals with knowledge of veterinary terminology and procedures.
  • Strong animal handling skills across various species including dogs; kennel experience is highly valued.
  • Familiarity with veterinary critical care practices, laboratory testing, and laboratory equipment operation.
  • Ability to perform medical collection procedures such as blood draws or urine samples accurately.
  • Knowledge of animal anatomy, aseptic techniques, and pet restraint methods to ensure safety for animals and staff.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications and veterinary software for record keeping and communication purposes.
  • Excellent customer service skills with the ability to communicate clearly with pet owners about medical treatments and clinic policies.
  • Experience with surgery assistance, pet care routines, drug regulations (DEA), USDA standards, and veterinary administrative support is preferred.
  • Additional desirable skills include equine experience, dog training knowledge, veterinary critical care experience, and familiarity with veterinary surgery procedures.

Pay: $16.00 – $18.00 per hour
