Duties
- Assist veterinarians during examinations, surgeries, and diagnostic procedures by preparing equipment, maintaining sterile fields, and monitoring anesthesia.
- Perform animal restraint using safe handling techniques for dogs, cats, and other small animals to ensure safety for both animals and staff.
- Collect blood samples via phlebotomy, insert IV catheters, and administer medications accurately following veterinary protocols.
- Operate medical equipment such as X-ray machines, laboratory analyzers, and radiology diagnostics tools with precision and adherence to aseptic techniques.
- Conduct laboratory work including sample processing, diagnostic testing, and recording results efficiently within veterinary software systems.
- Support critical and intensive care patients by monitoring vital signs, managing fluid therapy, and providing emergency veterinary care when needed.
- Assist with dental procedures by understanding dental terminology, performing dental cleanings, and supporting pet grooming activities to promote overall pet health.
Requirements
- Proven kennel experience along with animal husbandry skills to ensure proper care before, during, and after procedures.
- Strong knowledge of veterinary terminology, animal anatomy, physiology, and veterinary surgical assistance techniques.
- Experience with anesthesia monitoring, vascular access (IV insertion), pet care procedures including animal catheterization, and emergency medicine protocols.
- Familiarity with veterinary laboratory work, diagnostic radiology (X-ray), radiology diagnostics, and general anesthesia management.
- Ability to handle dogs confidently through dog training techniques and animal restraint methods; experience with equine or larger animals is a plus.
- Proficiency in veterinary software for record keeping; excellent client communication skills are highly valued.
- Must demonstrate animal handling expertise across various species while maintaining aseptic technique standards in all procedures.
