Responsibilities
- Assist veterinarians during examinations, surgeries, and diagnostic procedures with precision and care.
- Perform proper animal restraint and handling using humane techniques to ensure safety for both animals and staff.
- Conduct laboratory tests including blood work, urinalysis, and other diagnostic procedures to aid in accurate diagnosis; this includes drawing blood from both cephalic veins and jugular veins.
- Maintain aseptic technique during procedures to prevent infection and ensure optimal patient outcomes
- Support pet care activities such as grooming, feeding, and administering medications as directed
- Take and process X-ray images accurately, ensuring proper positioning and safety protocols are followed
- Manage animal husbandry tasks including feeding, cleaning enclosures, and monitoring vital signs
- Assist with dental procedures by understanding dental terminology and supporting oral health treatments
- Maintain detailed medical records, update patient charts, and document all treatments thoroughly
Experience
Candidates should possess at least 1-2 years of prior veterinary technician experience.
Experience with kennel management, animal physiology, veterinary critical care, and laboratory procedures is highly valued. Familiarity with veterinary terminology, animal catheterization, and animal anatomy knowledge will enhance your effectiveness in this role. A background in equine care or large animal handling is a plus. Strong skills in dog handling and animal restraint are essential for success. Candidates should demonstrate excellent communication skills in veterinary terminology and possess a proactive attitude toward pet care. Certification or training in veterinary technology or related fields is preferred but not mandatory; however, hands-on experience with X-ray imaging and aseptic techniques is required. Pay: $14.00 – $16.00 per hour
