Overview
We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Veterinary Assistant to join our dynamic veterinary team. The ideal candidate will possess a strong foundation in animal care and handling, with experience supporting veterinary professionals in clinical and hospital settings. As a Veterinary Assistant, you will play a vital role in providing exceptional pet care, assisting with medical procedures, and ensuring the well-being of our animal patients. Responsibilities
- Assist veterinarians and veterinary technicians during examinations, surgeries, and diagnostic procedures by preparing equipment and maintaining a sterile environment.
- Provide compassionate animal handling and restraint to ensure safety for both animals and staff during examinations and treatments.
- Administer medications, vaccines, and treatments as directed by veterinary professionals following proper aseptic techniques.
- Support pet owners with pet care instructions, including feeding, grooming, and post-operative care guidelines.
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of kennels, treatment areas, and laboratory spaces to uphold hygiene standards.
- Support laboratory procedures such as sample collection, processing, and basic diagnostic testing under supervision.
- Manage front desk responsibilities including scheduling appointments, maintaining patient records, and communicating effectively with clients.
- Assist with animal husbandry tasks such as feeding, bathing, and monitoring animal behavior to ensure optimal health conditions.
- Support emergency critical care situations by providing initial stabilization and monitoring vital signs under supervision.
- Collaborate with team members to ensure seamless clinic operations while maintaining a positive work environment focused on animal welfare.
Experience
- Previous experience working in a veterinary clinic or animal shelter setting is highly preferred.
- Demonstrated kennel experience with knowledge of animal husbandry practices.
- Familiarity with veterinary terminology, laboratory procedures, and clinical protocols is advantageous.
- Experience handling diverse species including dogs, cats, and equines is desirable.
- Proven ability to perform animal restraint techniques safely and effectively.
- Knowledge of medication administration protocols and aseptic techniques required for clinical support roles.
