Animal Hospital at Lakewood Ranch is looking for a skilled Veterinary Technician to join our team of compassionate professionals. As a Veterinary Technician, you will play a crucial role in the hospital by assisting veterinarians in diagnosing and treating animals while ensuring they have a comfortable and positive experience. Your day-to-day responsibilities will include:

As a Veterinary Technician at Animal Hospital at Lakewood Ranch, your responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:
Triage and Patient Assessment:
Perform initial patient assessments, including evaluating vital signs and overall health status.
Assist with triaging emergency cases to prioritize care based on severity.

Venipuncture & Blood Draws:
Proficiently perform venipuncture for blood draws in both routine and emergency cases.
Handle lab samples accurately and ensure timely processing for diagnostics.

Hospitalization & Patient Care:
Manage hospitalized patients, monitoring their condition and providing necessary treatments under the supervision of the veterinarian.
Administer medications, fluids, and treatments as directed by the veterinarian.
Perform patient rounds to ensure comfort and proper care.

Surgical Assistance & Anesthesia Monitoring:
Assist in surgeries, including prepping surgical sites, passing instruments, and maintaining sterile technique.
Monitor anesthesia during surgeries and assist with recovery.

Radiology & Diagnostic Imaging:
Perform radiographs and assist in interpreting results alongside the veterinary team.
Maintain radiology equipment and ensure quality imaging.

Cytology & Laboratory Work:
Prepare and examine cytology slides (e.g., skin scrapings, ear cytology) for lab analysis.
Assist in conducting laboratory tests (urinalysis, hematology, etc.) and process samples accordingly.

Dental Care:
Provide assistance in basic dental procedures, including scaling, polishing, and charting dental conditions.
Educate clients on dental care and preventive practices for their pets.

Client Education & Communication:
Educate pet owners about medical conditions, treatment plans, and post-procedure care.
Provide high-level customer service by answering client inquiries with empathy and professionalism.

Team Collaboration & Support:
Work closely with veterinarians and support staff to ensure the smooth operation of the clinic.
Assist in training and mentoring junior staff or new veterinary technicians.

Skills Knowledge and Expertise

We are looking for candidates who have the following qualifications:
Experience:
Minimum of 1-2 years of veterinary technician experience in a clinical, hospital, or emergency setting.
Experience in triage, venipuncture, surgical assistance, radiology, and dental care is preferred.
Familiarity with veterinary equipment such as anesthesia machines, radiology systems, and laboratory tools.
Strong diagnostic and critical thinking skills to assist in patient care and treatment plans.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.

Education:
A degree from an accredited veterinary technology program is required.
Certification as a Veterinary Technician (CVT, LVT, RVT) is highly preferred, though not required.
HeadStart Program: For those recently graduated from an accredited AVMA Veterinary Technology Program, Innovetive Petcare offers support for student loan repayment through the HeadStart Program.

Proficient with veterinary practice management software and electronic medical records (EMR).
Basic understanding of anesthesia, surgical support, and emergency care techniques.
