Job Title: Veterinary Surgical Assistant
Reports to: Surgery Supervisor
Summary: The Veterinary Surgical Assistant is a part of the surgical team.. The primary responsibility of the this role is the breakdown and cleaning of the operating rooms and the cleaning/sterilizing/wrapping of the surgical instrument. These team members will also be trained to assist in surgical procedures, patient radiographs, and help recover patients when needed.
Duties:
Feeding, walking, bathing of hospital patients
Patient Record Keeping (Treatment Sheet and Computer Record)
Restraint of patients Using Low-Stress Techniques
Assist technicians with patient treatments and care
Assist with radiographs using appropriate PPE
Perform basic animal husbandry including set up and breakdown of cages
Assist in keeping the hospital clean and stocked
Demonstrate knowledge of sanitation and disinfection techniques of patient kennels and bedding, hospital facilities, and surgical suites
Able to collect voided urine samples from patients.
Ability to disconnect/stop and reconnect/start IV pumps
Manually cleaning supplies of contaminants, removing waste matter, and operating and maintaining decontamination equipment.
Correctly packs supplies/instruments, wraps instruments for sterilization, inspect each
instrument for use, function, completeness and cleanliness
Monitoring and operating sterilization equipment.
Examining supplies meticulously to ensure they are properly cleaned and sanitized.
Testing and reporting any issues or problems with the sterilization equipment.
Sterilizing, preparing, wrapping, and organizing equipment into instrument trays for use during medical procedures.
Preparing and delivering all necessary equipment and instruments for surgeries, examinations, medical procedures, and medical carts.
Maintaining records of sterilization procedures, sterilized items, equipment maintenance, and supplies.
Controlling the inventory, reordering supplies, and checking expiration dates.
Attend hospital/department meetings as required
Participate in the on-call and holiday schedule as required
Effectively communicate with all members of the staff

Complete other projects/duties as assigned by management

Requirements:
Highschool Diploma
Animal Handling Experience
Must be able to lift up to 45 lbs solo and 150 lbs with assistance,
Environment:
Dynamic and challenging environment
Exposure to patient sickness/death, zoonotic diseases and occupational radiation, standing for prolonged periods of time
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $18.00 – $23.00 per hour
