Location: San Mateo, CA
Description
Position at North Peninsula Veterinary Emergency Clinic
Established in 1973 and proud to support our community, North Peninsula Veterinary Emergency Clinic is a fast-paced, progressive, emergency clinic. We are looking for a full-time veterinary receptionist, ideally with some veterinary clinic/ER experience. If you are a professional, enthusiastic individual looking to become part of a team that makes a difference in the lives of animals and the people who love them, then this position may be right for you! While we strongly prefer an individual with prior experience in veterinary hospitals, we will train the right person. This position will require nights and weekend shifts.
The veterinary receptionist position focuses primarily on the management of the front of the hospital, client interactions, financial handling, the intake & discharge of patients, and on the initial triage of cases as they present on the phone or in person.
The ideal candidate for a customer service role in a veterinary or medical setting possesses a comprehensive skill set that includes greeting clients and patients with genuine care, maintaining excellent communication with both clients and team members, demonstrating patience and empathy, and having experience in conflict resolution. This individual should exhibit a professional demeanor across various communication channels, including phone, electronic, and in-person interactions, while also being a collaborative team player who is willing to ask for and offer help. In terms of job knowledge, proficiency in answering basic questions about services, familiarity with common medications and medical terms, and the ability to identify and handle animal emergencies are crucial. The candidate should excel in calmly and gently handling animals, relaying advice or directions from veterinarians or technicians, and maintaining meticulous attention to detail in record-keeping and note-taking. Additionally, proficiency in basic money handling, credit card processing, experience with call handling and multi-line phone systems, and comfort with technology, especially veterinary electronic medical records software like EzyVet, are highly desirable. A minimum typing speed of 40 words per minute further enhances the candidate’s suitability for the position.
North Peninsula Veterinary Emergency Clinic is open 24/7, 365 days a year. The current position opening is for evenings, including weekends and holidays. During your training period you may be asked to work some mornings as well and will need to be flexible. Once you are trained we attempt to maintain a consistent schedule.
We offer comprehensive medical and ancillary benefits, as well as paid time off to our full-time team members. All team members are eligible for a 401k with a matching contribution after 6 months. We also offer a very competitive discount for your personal pet’s care after 90 days of employment.
