Veterinary Product Specialist – Mission Pet Health Jobs in Birmingham, AL at Mission Pet Health
Title: Veterinary Product Specialist – Mission Pet Health
Company: Mission Pet Health
Location: Birmingham, AL
About The Team
The Hospital Experience Data Team at Mission Pet Health owns the data strategy, architecture, and operational data for our network of more than 840 veterinary hospitals. We are the architects of the data highway that connects our clinics to the rest of the company.
Our team is responsible for the entire data lifecycle, from the point of origin in a clinic's system to secure delivery within our internal ecosystem. We enable internal software development, application engineering, and analytics across the organization by building scalable integration patterns that turn fragmented clinic data into a unified, governed strategic asset.
Role Overview
In this role, you will be the clinical "brain" behind our data integrations. You will serve as our primary Subject Matter Expert (SME) on veterinary clinic operations and Practice Information Management Systems (PIMS), partnering with a highly technical engineering team to build out our enterprise data ecosystem.
You will guide the strategic direction of the Hospital Experience Data Team by using your deep veterinary knowledge to decode how hospital data actually works in the real world. You will drive roadmap prioritization, investigate complex clinical workflows, and ensure that the data we extract and normalize accurately reflects the reality of veterinary care.
This role is ideal for someone with extensive experience in veterinary operations or PIMS software who wants to act as a strategic advisor and partner with a high-performing technical team to solve complex data challenges at scale.
Key Responsibilities
- You will serve as the primary domain expert on veterinary clinic workflows, advising the HX Data Team on how hospitals use their practice management software daily.
- You will partner closely with engineering leadership to shape the integration roadmap, guiding strategic decisions on which data endpoints and PIMS systems to prioritize based on clinical and business value.
- You will investigate and decode the behaviors, data structures, and edge cases of third-party systems to inform our technical integration strategies.
- You will translate complex clinical scenarios (e.g., appointment scheduling logic, patient/client relationships, invoicing structures) into clear logical requirements for our software engineers.
- You will validate our normalized data models alongside the engineering team to ensure the data we deliver to the rest of the organization is clinically accurate and meaningful.
- You will bridge the gap between our technical data team and internal operational stakeholders, ensuring that the "data highway" we build genuinely solves problems for our veterinary staff and internal product teams.
- You will continuously research and monitor the veterinary technology landscape to anticipate how changes in major PIMS platforms will impact our enterprise data strategy.
Required Qualifications
- 4+ years of deep, hands-on experience in the veterinary industry, either in clinic operations (e.g., Practice Manager) or working directly for a veterinary software/PIMS vendor.
- You possess expert-level knowledge of the intricacies and workflows of major Practice Information Management Systems.
- You have a strong analytical mindset and are comfortable looking at raw data or API payloads to identify how clinical actions translate into system data.
- You have a proven ability to act as a strategic advisor, helping technical leadership evaluate trade-offs and make confident prioritization decisions.
- You possess exceptional communication skills, with a demonstrated ability to explain nuanced clinical operations to highly technical software engineers.
- You understand the broader veterinary business ecosystem and how hospital data drives outcomes for analytics, client experience, and financial reporting.
- You thrive in an investigative role, enjoying the process of digging into legacy systems to figure out "how things actually work" under the hood.
