Job Summary
VetNow Animal Urgent Care is seeking a motivated and compassionate Doctor Assistant to join our growing team! Our Doctor Assistants play an essential role in supporting veterinarians, ensuring efficient patient flow, and creating a positive experience for both patients and clients.
Role Description:
This is a full time on-site role as a Doctor Assistant at VetNow Animal Urgent Care in Studio City, CA.
- Full time – rotating 3×10 and 4×10 hour shifts
- Serve as a primary assistant to the veterinarian by obtaining detailed patient histories, preparing patients for examination, assisting with treatments, and supporting efficient appointment flow.
- Communicate clearly and compassionately with pet owners, including gathering information, relaying veterinarian recommendations and treatment plans, and answering appropriate questions.
- Assist with patient intake, admissions, triage, weighing, restraint, hospitalization, and general patient care as needed.
- Support patient discharges by reviewing home-care instructions, medications, follow-up recommendations, and required paperwork with clients.
- Maintain accurate and timely medical records, including patient histories, client communications, charges, callbacks, and other relevant information in EzyVet and SmartFlow.
- Assist with preparing and dispensing medications as directed by the veterinarian and communicate administration instructions to clients.
- Assist with client check-in, phone calls, estimates, payments, and other front-desk responsibilities when needed.
- Provide compassionate support to clients experiencing stressful, emotional, or end-of-life situations.
- Work collaboratively with veterinarians, technicians, client service representatives, and management to provide exceptional patient care and client service.

What We’re Looking For
The ideal candidate is someone who:
- Has previous experience working in a veterinary hospital or clinic; Doctor Assistant experience is preferred.
- Has strong communication and customer service skills.
- Can remain calm, professional, and compassionate during urgent and emotionally challenging situations.
- Is highly organized, dependable, and able to work independently while also contributing to a collaborative team.
- Has experience with veterinary medical records and practice management software; experience with EzyVet and/or SmartFlow is a plus.
Physical Requirements
This position requires the ability to stand and remain active for extended periods, safely lift and assist with lifting patients, perform animal restraint, and work in an environment with barking dogs, medical equipment, and other typical veterinary hospital conditions.
