Job Summary:

The Veterinary Critical Care Technician plays a vital role in providing emergency and intensive care for critically ill or injured animals. They work closely with veterinarians, monitoring patients, administering treatments, and ensuring the highest level of care in a fast-paced and high-pressure environment.

Key Responsibilities:Patient Care & Monitoring

Provide round-the-clock monitoring of critically ill patients, including vital signs (heart rate, respiration, temperature, and blood pressure).
Recognize and respond to changes in a patient’s condition promptly.
Assist in stabilizing patients in emergency situations, including oxygen therapy, fluid resuscitation, and CPR.
Perform pain assessments and administer appropriate pain management under veterinary supervision.

Medical Procedures & Treatment

Administer IV fluids, medications, and nutritional support as prescribed by veterinarians.
Perform blood draws, place IV catheters, and assist with advanced procedures such as central line placement.
Conduct diagnostic tests (e.g., bloodwork, radiographs, ECGs, and ultrasound assistance).
Provide wound care, bandage changes, and assist with surgical and post-operative care.

Emergency & ICU Support

Assist in trauma cases, toxicology cases, and other emergency situations.
Manage ventilator patients and oxygen therapy equipment.
Operate and maintain specialized ICU and emergency equipment (ventilators, defibrillators, infusion pumps, etc.).
Work as part of a team during emergency procedures, including CPR and advanced life support.

Client Communication & Education

Communicate with pet owners regarding patient status, treatment plans, and home care instructions.
Provide compassionate support and guidance to pet owners during critical situations.
Educate clients on post-hospitalization care, including medication administration and recovery monitoring.

Record Keeping & Compliance

Accurately document treatments, observations, and medication administration in patient records.
Maintain compliance with veterinary regulations, hospital protocols, and safety procedures.
Ensure proper handling and disposal of biohazardous materials.

Qualifications & Skills:

Education: Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Veterinary Technology (preferred).
Certification: Licensed or Registered Veterinary Technician (LVT, RVT, or CVT) preferred. VTS (ECC) certification is a plus.
Experience: Minimum of 1 year in an emergency or critical care veterinary setting preferred.
Skills Required:
Strong knowledge of emergency procedures and critical care nursing.
Proficiency in medical equipment use (ECG, ventilators, infusion pumps, etc.).
Ability to work under pressure and respond quickly in high-stress situations.
Excellent teamwork, communication, and client interaction skills.
Strong attention to detail and problem-solving abilities.

Work Environment:

Fast-paced emergency and intensive care unit.
Requires standing for long periods and ability to lift/move up to 50 lbs.
May involve exposure to infectious diseases and aggressive patients.
Nights, weekends, and holidays are required.

Pay: $30.00 – $34.00 per hour
