Job Summary
Crossroads Animal Hospital in Seneca, South Carolina, is looking for an experienced Veterinary Assistant or LVT.
Responsibilities
Duties will include, but not be limited to:
Patient Care: Observing and recording animal behavior and condition, providing nursing care or emergency first aid to recovering or injured animals, and restraining animals during examinations or procedures.
Diagnostic Procedures: Collecting samples such as blood, urine, or tissue for laboratory testing, performing diagnostic imaging like X-rays, and conducting routine laboratory procedures.
Surgical Assistance: Preparing animals and instruments for surgery, administering anesthesia under supervision, and monitoring patients during surgical procedures.
Treatment Administration: Administer medications, vaccines, treatments as prescribed by the veterinarian, and provide wound care by bandaging and wrapping injuries.
Client Communication: Educating pet owners on proper at-home care, including diet, exercise, and post-treatment instructions, and communicating effectively with clients regarding their pets’ health.
Record Keeping: Maintaining accurate patient records, including treatment plans, progress notes, and laboratory results.
Experience
CAH is a mixed animal practice (seeing both small and large animals, including exotics). The ideal candidate must be comfortable being around all species, but we can train on large animal and exotic handling, if prior experience has been limited to small animal work.
Schedules and Availability
This is a full-time position, though a part-time candidate preferring a three-day workweek would be considered. (Full-time with us is a four-day week. Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Fridays.) The Work schedule is 7:45 am until finished (usually around 6 pm, but can vary between 5-7 pm). Occasionally, a later workday will be required, there will be additional bonus pay for this. We do see emergency cases after working hours and on the weekends. Employees have a rotating schedule to assist with these emergencies. Employees will be on call to assist with emergency cases 1/3rd to 1/6th of the time( For the first year of employment), depending on how many others are in the rotation. The on-call person is also responsible for coming to care for a hospitalized or boarding pet if needed. In addition to the regular hourly pay, a $45 call-in ER bonus and a $10 kennel/hospitalized pet bonus are added to your paycheck each time you need to come in for these duties.
