Job Overview
We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Veterinary Assistant to join our team. The ideal candidate will play a crucial role in providing high-quality care to our animal patients and supporting our veterinary staff in delivering exceptional service. This position requires a love for animals, strong communication skills, and the ability to work in a fast-paced environment. Previous veterinary experience is required.
Responsibilities
Assist the veterinarian during examinations.
Manage appointments and rooms.
Prepare and administer medications, vaccines, serums, and treatments, as prescribed by the veterinarian.
Perform routine dental cleanings on animals under the direction of the veterinarian.
Administer anesthesia to animals, under the direction of the veterinarian, and monitor animals’ responses to anesthetics so that dosages can be adjusted.
Obtain radiographs of animals with knowledge of proper positioning and techniques.
Care for and monitor the condition of animals recovering from surgery.
Client communications.
Managing record requests between other hospitals and specialty practices.
Fill prescriptions.
Discharge patients.
Client education.
Assist in cleaning the hospital.
Process payment transactions.
Maintain proper documentation in the electronic medical record.
Relay appropriate information to/from clients to doctors and/or management.
Computer skills: Able to use Windows based computer systems, word processing, email, web search and other skills needed to effectively use the practice management software program.
