Robinson’s Rescue Spay and Neuter Clinic is seeking veterinary assistants for a position in our high-quality, high-volume spay/neuter clinic. Candidates for this position must have the ability to work in a fast-paced environment with minimal supervision. Candidate must also be self-motivated, a team player, and able to multitask. Experience in a veterinary setting is a plus.

Major Job Functions of Veterinary Assistants: Provide care for patients before, during and after surgery. Admit surgery patients each morning. Provide excellent customer service during each client interaction. Verify client/patient information, brings any concerns to the veterinarian’s attention and sets up animals in designated cages. Clear communication between client and technician, and technician and veterinarian is critical. This task includes handling dogs on leash up to 140 lbs, and lifting/carrying humane box traps up to 30lbs each. Prepping assistant is responsible for clipping and surgical preparation of the animal as requested by the veterinarian and RVT. During surgery, the veterinary assistant is responsible for assisting in the monitoring and moving of the patient. Clean surgical tables and equipment between operations. After surgery, the veterinary assistant is responsible for assisting in the monitoring of the patient while recovering from surgery and cleaning of any cages that may become soiled with vomit and/or urine or feces. This task includes lifting up to 50 lbs without assistance. The task also requires the ability to kneel down on the floor and return to standing position frequently throughout the day. Administer vaccines and medications. Instruments must be cleaned and surgical packs prepared for all surgeries scheduled the following day. After surgeries are complete, floors should be swept and mopped. All surfaces should be wiped down and cleaned thoroughly. Discharge patients. Provide excellent customer service during each client interaction. Clean/disinfect all cages and surfaces. Maintain a positive attitude in a fast-paced environment and be able to multitask efficiently.

Note: The duties of this position may be added on a temporary or permanent basis. This position may be required to work extra and/or irregular hours when necessary.

Skills: Must be able to learn characteristics of animal behavior, i.e. identifying fearful and aggressive behavior. Must be able to use appropriate safety equipment for handling fractious or feral animals. Be able to identify own limitations and be willing anesthesia, with a clear idea of abnormal conditions. Physical to ask for help when needed. Must become proficient at animal restraint techniques for various procedures. Ability to monitor patients under requirements. Must be able to work standing for 9 hours. Must be able to lift and carry up to 50lbs or more repeatedly throughout the workday with assistance. Must be able to bend or kneel repeatedly.
