Job Summary
Privately owned small animal hospital in Old Saybrook, CT is seeking an experienced veterinary technician or veterinary assistant to join our team. Surgical/anesthesia experience is a plus. This position requires strong communication skills, attention to details and the ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
Responsibilities
Assist veterinarians during examinations and procedures, ensuring the comfort and safety of animals.
Handle and restrain animals during treatments and examinations.
Prepare and maintain examination rooms, ensuring cleanliness and organization.
Administer medications and vaccines as directed by the veterinarian.
Perform laboratory tests, including blood draws and urinalysis.
Maintain accurate medical records and update patient files.
Assist with pet grooming tasks as needed.
Educate pet owners on proper care, nutrition, and training techniques.
Support surgical procedures by preparing instruments and monitoring animals during recovery.
Qualifications
Previous experience as a Veterinary Assistant or Veterinary Technician is required.
Familiarity with veterinary terminology and procedures.
Familiarity with restraint and handling of dogs and cats.
Experience with blood collection, laboratory equipment and radiology.
Ability to work well under pressure while maintaining attention to detail.
Strong interpersonal skills to communicate effectively with pet owners and team members.
Job Types: Full-time, Part-time
Pay: $18.00 – $25.00 per hour
Expected hours: 20 – 40 per week
