Position Summary
This Veterinary Technician Assistant positions primarily provide support for the technicians and patients within Equine Critical Care, Medicine, Surgery & Lameness and Ophthalmology services whose care are being overseen by faculty, residents and interns. These positions require a basic knowledge of various medical procedures, biosecurity surveillance, and proper equipment usage. These positions will assist in the case management on a day-to-day basis by providing support services such as stocking, cleaning and maintaining equipment after use, and providing continuity of patient care with the guidance and oversight of the primary technician on shift. These positions should have the availability to work holidays, overnights, and weekends as we are a 24/7/365 hospital.
A signing bonus may be considered for successful candidates.
Required Job Qualifications
HS Diploma or GED plus one (1) year of experience caring for animals or providing animal handling duties OR HS Diploma or GED and a combination of related education and/or experience in an occupation related to the work assigned to this position equal to one (1) year.
Preferred Job Qualifications
One (1) year experience working in an equine or small animal veterinary hospital.
Demonstrated experience providing customer service in a fast paced environment.
A strong desire to learn and advance medical and technical knowledge base.
Ability to be compassionate and empathetic to clients in emotional situations.
Demonstrate experience working with a team.
Strong attention to detail and analytical skills.

Duty/Responsibility
Assists in providing efficient, optimal patient care including: triage, assessment, treatments, monitoring and restraint.
Collaborate with interns, residents, faculty and technicians to ensure appropriate treatment plans. This is done by evaluating patient status, response to therapy, collecting diagnostic samples, setting up for procedures
Provides clinical and technical assistance such as: fluid and frug administration, IV sampling, blood gas collection, operation and trouble shooting of all specialty-related equipment, set up and break down of procedures, cleaning and stocking clinical areas
Assist in out-patient appointments such as neuro exams, endoscopy procedures, ultrasound exams, respiratory exams, ophthalmology exams.

Duty/Responsibility
This position is responsible for biosecurity awareness by leading by example and educating clients within the Equine barn.
Learn process to appropriately clean and store equipment between uses to protect biosecurity of equipment.
Participate in the annual process of deep cleaning of the equine hospital.
Uphold information presented to DVM and FRCC students within orientation that includes basic knowledge of the working function of the main hospital and equine isolation unit.
