Overview of Veterinary Assistant Duties and Responsibilities
Cleaning and sanitizing areas of the hospital
Assist in holding and restraining animals
Clean and sterilize instruments, equipment, and tools
Ensure exam and operating rooms are stocked
Assist vet with surgical procedures
Ensure all cages and kennels are clean
Administer medications
Assist in collecting samples such as blood or urine for testing
Educate owners about animal health, conditions, and proper care
Light reception duties on occasion
Veterinary Assistant Requirements and Qualifications
One year previous experience in animal care preferred
Able to multitask, prioritize, and manage time efficiently
Basic understanding of animal behavior and health care
Interpersonal communication skills
Ability to prioritize and manage numerous different patient needs
Physical ability to restrain larger pets when necessary
Must be reliable and dependable
Must be able to work weekends (Required), extended hours (Required), and holidays (Required)
Job Type: Full-Time
Salary: $12.50-$16.50/ pay is negotiable based on experience
Job Type: Part-time
Pay: $11.00 – $14.00 per hour
